I am building a mobile app for my HVAC technicians to use in the field. That side is already handled by another developer. What I need is a full-stack web developer to build the admin platform that my office team will use to manage the entire operation - dispatching, customer records, job scheduling, invoicing, and real-time tracking of all our vans.
My office runs on spreadsheets and sticky notes right now, and it is chaos. The mobile app will feed GPS locations and job updates into your backend, and your web dashboard will be where my dispatchers assign work, monitor technician movements on a map, manage customer accounts, and generate invoices. You will own the entire web stack from the ground up, including the API that powers both the mobile app and the dashboard.
The previous developer built a rough Node.js backend with PostgreSQL, but the code is poorly documented and needs to be rebuilt properly. For the frontend, I am open to React or Vue - whichever you are strongest in. For the backend, I am flexible on Node.js, Python with Django, or Laravel, as long as you can explain your choice and own the migration. The hosting is currently on Heroku, but I am open to AWS or DigitalOcean if you recommend it.
The dashboard needs a clean, role-based interface for admins and dispatchers. Core features include a live map showing all technician locations, a job board for creating and assigning work orders, a customer database with search and history, QuickBooks integration for automated invoicing, and basic reporting for revenue and technician performance. The API needs to be well-documented with Swagger or similar tools, and it must handle offline data sync gracefully when technicians reconnect after working in areas without cell service.
This is a long-term, full-time role - forty hours per week, every week. I need someone who has built and deployed at least two production web applications from scratch and has experience building APIs that power mobile frontends. I am not a developer, so I need you to be independent, comfortable debugging production issues, and able to explain technical problems to me in plain language. Reliability is everything. If something breaks, just communicate - acknowledge the issue within a few hours, even if the fix takes longer.
The rate is thirty-five to sixty-five dollars per hour, paid weekly through Upwork, with forty guaranteed hours per week. I am in the Eastern Time Zone and need at least three hours of overlap each morning for quick standups and coordination.
When you apply, put the word "DASHBOARD" in the very first line of your proposal so I know you read this far. In the second line, tell me your preferred frontend and backend stack and why. Then share links to two full-stack web apps you have built from scratch, confirm you can commit to forty hours per week with EST morning overlap, and in one sentence explain why you want a long-term role over short-term contracts. Miss any of those five things and I will not respond - I need someone detail-oriented from day one.
I do not micromanage, I pay on time, and I genuinely value good engineering. If you want stability, ownership, and a consistent paycheck without the constant hunt for new clients, this is the gig. Let us build something solid together.
