Senior full-stack web developer – WordPress, React/Next.js and AI-enabled workflows

𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 Stepworks is an independent branding firm based in Hong Kong. We help organisations build stronger brands, with digital playing an important part in that work. We are looking for an experienced web developer to support a varied mix of websites and web applications. This is not only a coding role. We want someone who communicates clearly, takes responsibility for their work and is comfortable improving how development gets done. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗼𝗻 • Develop responsive websites and web applications using modern web standards and frameworks • Build, extend and maintain WordPress websites, including custom themes, plugins and integrations • Work across frontend and backend tasks using PHP, JavaScript, React/Next.js, Node.js and databases • Turn Figma designs into accurate, responsive and accessible digital experiences • Support existing projects by diagnosing issues, improving performance and maintaining code quality • Collaborate with designers, strategists and project leads who have different technical backgrounds • Estimate work clearly, raise risks early and provide dependable progress updates • Contribute to QA, testing, documentation and deployment readiness 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗜 • We are actively exploring how AI can improve development and agency workflows. You do not need to be an AI specialist, but you should be curious, practical and willing to learn. • We are looking for someone who: • Is comfortable using AI-assisted development tools where they genuinely improve the work • Can review, test and take responsibility for AI-generated output rather than accepting it without question • Enjoys experimenting with new tools and sharing useful findings with the team • Is willing to adapt established processes when a better approach becomes available • Can help identify repetitive work that could be automated or simplified • Treats security, privacy, maintainability and client confidentiality as part of any AI-assisted workflow • Sees ongoing learning as a normal part of being a developer We care more about thoughtful adoption than using AI for its own sake. Good judgement, reliable delivery and sound engineering remain essential. 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 • At least five years of professional web development experience • Strong PHP, Typescript, MySQL, HTML, CSS and JavaScript skills • Advanced working knowledge of WordPress • Experience with React and Next.js • Experience with Node.js and modern frontend build tools • A solid understanding of responsive development and cross-browser compatibility • Confidence working from Figma and a good eye for layout, typography and visual detail • Familiarity with Git-based workflows, code review and deployment processes • An understanding of technical SEO, website performance, accessibility and security fundamentals • Clear written and spoken English 𝗨𝘀𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 • Supabase, Prisma, MongoDB or other modern database tools • WebSockets or real-time application features • Ionic or other cross-platform application frameworks • AWS, DigitalOcean or similar cloud platforms • Automated testing, QA and deployment workflows • AI integrations, agentic workflows, APIs or process automation • MODX CMS You do not need to match every item.
