Senior Healthcare Backend Engineer – DICOM Workflow MVP
CardioServ is seeking an experienced healthcare imaging backend engineer to build a lightweight internal DICOM workflow and case management system for echocardiography studies.
This is a narrowly scoped operational infrastructure project focused on:
* DICOM intake
* centralized study organization
* reviewer assignment
* workflow tracking
* searchable study management
MicroDicom will remain the primary viewer during this phase.
Current Workflow
CardioServ receives echocardiography studies from clients via:
* CD/DVD
* USB drive
* uploaded files
Studies are manually uploaded into Google Drive, assigned to reviewers, and opened using MicroDicom. As study volume has increased, workflow management and retrieval have become inefficient.
Technical Scope
Primary goals:
* import/store DICOM studies in Orthanc
* extract/index metadata
* link studies to client organizations
* assign studies to one or more users
* track workflow status
* support study search/retrieval
* launch assigned study into MicroDicom
Client users should only see studies assigned to their organization.
Preferred Experience
Strong preference for:
* Orthanc
* DICOM workflows
* healthcare imaging infrastructure
* PostgreSQL/MySQL
* Python/FastAPI
* Docker
Estimated Scope
* approximately 60–140 engineering hours
* fixed-scope MVP preferred
Future Phases
This project is intended as a focused Phase 1A MVP. Based on work quality, communication, and architectural approach, there is strong potential for continued work on future phases involving:
• browser-based DICOM viewing
• expanded workflow automation
• reviewer collaboration features
• client-facing workflows
• additional imaging infrastructure development
Questions to answer with proposal submission:
1. Relevant Orthanc/DICOM experience
2. Similar healthcare imaging projects
3. Recommended architecture approach
4. What you would intentionally avoid building in this phase
CardioServ is a cardiovascular imaging quality infrastructure company focused on accreditation support, peer review, and operational imaging quality systems.
