We are looking for a senior full-stack developer / technical lead to help review, stabilize, and improve an existing website project.
We currently have an active development team, but we are experiencing recurring issues when website updates are deployed to the live server. This role is not initially intended to replace the current team. Instead, we need a technically strong, process-oriented developer who can help review the codebase, identify deployment risks, improve code quality, and create a cleaner release process.
The ideal candidate is someone who has been brought into existing projects before to audit code, clean up workflows, improve deployment stability, and provide senior-level oversight.
We need someone who can work professionally with the current development team while helping us create a more reliable system for staging, testing, review, approval, and live deployment.
Primary Goals
The first phase of this project will be a technical audit and deployment process review.
We want to understand:
Why updates keep causing problems on the live server
Whether the existing codebase has quality, security, or structure issues
Whether the current deployment process is unsafe or incomplete
Whether Git/version control is being used properly
Whether there is a proper staging-to-production workflow
Whether we have rollback procedures if something breaks
Whether the current team can continue with better oversight and process
What needs to change before future updates go live
Responsibilities
You may be asked to help with:
Reviewing the existing website codebase
Reviewing Git/GitHub/GitLab setup and repository structure
Reviewing the current deployment process
Reviewing staging vs production workflow
Identifying code quality problems
Identifying server, database, or environment issues
Identifying security or ownership risks
Creating a cleaner deployment checklist
Creating a rollback plan
Reviewing pull requests before live deployment
Helping enforce better code review standards
Advising the existing development team
Documenting technical risks and recommended fixes
Helping the business owner understand what needs to be fixed first
Required Experience
Please only apply if you have strong experience with most of the following:
Full-stack web development
Code review and code cleanup
Working with existing or legacy codebases
Git, GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket
Pull request workflows
Staging and production environments
Server deployment troubleshooting
Website deployment best practices
Database backup and migration awareness
QA/testing checklists
Rollback planning
Debugging live-server issues
Writing technical documentation
Working with another development team professionally
Helpful Experience
Please mention if you have experience with any of the following:
WordPress / WooCommerce
PHP / Laravel
React / Next.js
Node.js
MySQL / PostgreSQL
cPanel / Cloudways / DigitalOcean / AWS / SiteGround / GoDaddy
Stripe or payment integrations
Event platforms or booking systems
CRM, email, or SMS integrations
SEO-sensitive website updates
Website performance optimization
Security audits
Ideal Candidate
The ideal person for this role is not just a coder. We need someone who thinks like a technical lead, QA-minded developer, and deployment manager.
You should be:
Calm and professional
Highly organized
Strong at diagnosing problems
Comfortable reviewing another team’s work
Able to explain technical issues in plain English
Comfortable creating checklists and documentation
Focused on preventing future mistakes
Willing to work with the current team instead of immediately replacing them
Strong enough to push back when a process is unsafe
First Project Deliverable
The first assignment will likely be a 10–20 hour technical audit.
The deliverable should include a written report covering:
Current codebase risks
Deployment process concerns
Server/environment concerns
Git/version control concerns
Security or ownership concerns
Recommended quick fixes
Recommended long-term fixes
Suggested staging-to-production workflow
Suggested deployment checklist
Suggested rollback plan
Recommendation on how the current development team should operate moving forward
Future Work
If the first audit goes well, this may turn into an ongoing role where you help with:
Reviewing code before deployment
Approving pull requests
Supervising release workflow
Supporting the current development team
Creating technical documentation
Preventing bad code from reaching the live website
Helping us scale the website safely
Important
We are not looking for someone who immediately says the entire website must be rebuilt before reviewing the actual project.
We are also not looking for someone who wants to push directly to the live server without review, staging, backups, or testing.
The goal is to stabilize, protect, and improve the current development process.
