Full-Stack Developer/Small Team for Custom Online Pharmacy Platform (Long-Term, Ongoing Role)

We operate a UK-based online private prescribing pharmacy — patients complete an online consultation, get assessed and prescribed by a licensed pharmacist, and receive medication by post. We offer treatments across multiple conditions (e.g. weight management and other prescribing categories), not a single-product platform. This is a regulated healthcare business: patient data must be handled securely, GDPR-compliant, with proper access controls and audit trails. Full compliance detail comes later with shortlisted candidates. We’re looking to build a fully custom platform to replace our current setup, and for the right developer or small team to stay on long-term as our ongoing development and maintenance partner — this is not a one-off job. How it works: Every prescription item sits behind a clinical assessment checkpoint, not a standard add-to-basket flow. Treatments are browsable by treatment/condition page, but buying one requires an online consultation first — an adaptive questionnaire with logic that can restrict options or stop the journey on clinical grounds — then treatment selection, checkout, and prescriber review/approval before anything is dispensed. Many treatments are ongoing subscriptions rather than one-off purchases, and since dosing can change based on patient response, subscriptions need to be clinically adjustable (not just recurring billing) — patients can request changes, prescribers can review and update them. Each recurring issue generates its own individual prescription and order, not one prescription billed repeatedly. Our prescribing and dispensing operations run as distinct processes, and we want the platform built the same way: patient-facing/prescribing and backend/dispensing as two components married together but able to run independently if needed, connected by a clean API rather than tightly bolted into one system. What we need built: • Patient storefront: treatment/condition pages, consultation questionnaire, checkout, account portal • Prescriber backend: review queue, approval workflow, in-platform patient messaging, auto-drafted consultation notes from questionnaire answers • Subscription management: recurring billing, patient/prescriber tools to adjust or pause • Dispensing backend: label generation, invoicing, courier API integration • Internal tool for staff to create prescription orders for patients outside the normal website flow • Admin/CMS: role-based access (prescriber / dispenser / manager / developer), product and questionnaire management, reporting • ID/age/address verification via a third-party API, plus a live photo/video identity check at checkout (configurable on/off per treatment) • Mobile-first, responsive across desktop/tablet/mobile for patients and staff • Built with SEO and conversion in mind Non-negotiable terms: • We own 100% of the source code, IP, and infrastructure outright — no licensing dependency on the developer’s platform or accounts. • Direct access to whoever’s actually writing the code — no agency account-management layer. • Small teams welcome (e.g. lead dev + designer), but no white-label agency setups. • Healthcare, fintech, or other regulated/high-security platform experience strongly preferred.
