A B2B SaaS enterprise company is growing its GTM AI engineering team and looking for an experienced independent contractor to join an active, fast-moving AI innovation program. You will work directly alongside the product owner and lead developer on a production AI system built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP) that delivers intelligence and enablement tools to marketing, sales and pre-sales teams. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who is equally comfortable in the back end and the front end, understands how to build and integrate AI applications responsibly and wants to do meaningful work at the intersection of AI engineering and go-to-market execution. The engagement runs approximately 20 hours per week through December 31, 2026.
Key responsibilities:
• Build and extend MCP server capabilities in a TypeScript and NestJS environment, adding new tools, workflows and AI components to an active production platform.
• Engineer and integrate across multiple large language model provider gateways, including Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, OpenAI and AWS Bedrock, following established security patterns for each.
• Develop and maintain front-end features in Astro and React that surface AI-generated content and workflows to end users.
• Design and build data retrieval and knowledge pipeline features, including search, indexing and content enrichment workflows tied to a structured knowledge base.
• Advance open security and governance engineering tasks, including audit logging, human-in-the-loop reviewer flows, OAuth scope minimization and IAM hardening.
• Integrate with external business systems including Salesforce, Microsoft 365 (Graph API), Atlassian (Confluence and Jira), SharePoint and Asana using established patterns and authentication models.
• Collaborate with the product owner and lead developer on sprint planning, technical design decisions and cross-functional stakeholder communication as needed.
• Contribute to the documentation and maintainability of the platform as it scales from a pilot to a broader production deployment.
Qualifications:
• Solid TypeScript and Node.js experience with a back-end framework such as NestJS, Express, or similar. You do not need to have used NestJS specifically, but you should be able to get productive in it quickly.
• Hands-on experience building AI-powered applications, whether that is LLM integrations, agent workflows, RAG pipelines, or MCP server development. Some production or near-production exposure is preferred.
• Front-end capability in React at a level where you can own features end to end, even if front end is not your primary focus.
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure on AWS, particularly containerized services. You do not need to be a DevOps specialist, but you should be comfortable in the environment.
• Understanding of API integration patterns, OAuth 2.0 flows and working with third-party platforms such as Microsoft Graph, Salesforce, or Atlassian.
• Awareness of AI application security fundamentals, including prompt injection, data handling at model boundaries and responsible AI governance. You do not need a security background, just the right instincts.
• Strong independent working style. This engagement is remote and part-time. You should be able to manage your own time, communicate proactively and deliver without daily oversight.
• Available during Eastern Time or UK Time Zone working hours for regular syncs and collaboration windows.
Experience with ElasticSearch, sentence-transformer embedding models, or the EU AI Act and OWASP LLM Top 10 is a plus, but not a requirement. We are looking for the right engineer, not a checklist match.
Engagement terms:
- Around 20 hours per week, Part-time independent contractor
- Through Dec 31, 2026. Starting as soon as the right person is identified
- Fully remote, you must provide your own computer and internet access
- Completely independent contract/freelancer
