Senior Front-End Developer - GSAP & 3D Animation Performance Audit (Consulting)
I run a web design agency and I'm looking for a genuinely senior developer to audit and optimize the performance of several existing animation-heavy websites.
These are sites with complex motion work, specifically:
GSAP scroll-scrubbed / frame-by-frame animations - timeline scrubbing tied to scroll position, including canvas-based frame sequences and scroll-controlled video/canvas heroes
3D animations - Three.js / Spline integrations
The builds work, but I want a real expert to go under the hood and tell me where they're costing performance and how to fix it. I'm talking about things like jank during scrub, dropped frames, layout thrashing, unnecessary repaints, GPU load, asset/frame loading strategy, and overall speed on both desktop and mobile.
What I need from you:
Profile each site and identify the actual bottlenecks (not guesses)
Concrete, prioritized recommendations - and ideally the ability to implement the fixes
A clear read on what's a quick win vs. what needs a rebuild
Who I'm looking for:
This is a senior-only role. You should have real, demonstrable experience with GSAP (ScrollTrigger, scrubbed timelines) and 3D web animation, and you should be able to talk fluently about rendering performance - frame budgets, requestAnimationFrame, compositing, the works. Please don't apply if you're junior or just getting started with these tools. I'll know quickly.
This is consulting / project-based for now, with potential for ongoing work if it's a good fit.
To apply: Send me examples of animation-heavy or performance-sensitive work you've personally built or optimized, and a sentence or two on how you approach diagnosing a janky scroll animation.
