Need a developer to build a custom MCP server for our internal tools (Claude Desktop)

Right now if someone wants to check a customer's status or pull a recent order, they log into our admin panel, find it, copy it, and paste it into Claude. It's slow and it kills the whole point of having an AI assistant. I'd rather just ask Claude directly and have it fetch the data itself.
We have an internal REST API already built (documented, with API key auth) that exposes the endpoints we care about, customers, orders, and a couple of reporting endpoints. What we're missing is the MCP layer that sits between Claude and that API.
What we need:
- An MCP server that wraps our existing API as a set of tools Claude can call
- 4 to 6 tools to start (look up customer, get order details, list recent orders, pull a basic sales summary)
- Works over stdio for local Claude Desktop use now, but we'd like it built so we can move it to a remote HTTP setup later without rewriting everything
- API key kept out of the code, loaded from env
- A short README so our own engineer can add more tools later without hunting through your code
You should have actually built an MCP server before, not just read the docs. If you have, you'll know the auth and transport gotchas we don't want to discover in production.
Please tell us briefly about an MCP server you've built and what it connected to. Generic proposals will be ignored.
