Inspection - Senior Full-Stack Developer

PHP / CodeIgniter Developer — Hotel Inspection Module (Milestone-Based) Upwork job posting — Inspection & Recovery, Phase 1 We are building a new Inspection module inside an established hospitality operations platform. The platform is a mature CodeIgniter 2.2.6 PHP application with an existing schema, existing modules, and a locked architecture. This is not a greenfield project and it is not a rewrite. You will be building one new module that follows the platform's existing conventions. The module lets a hotel inspector walk a property on a phone, capture findings and photos with almost no friction, and turn what they find into a costed, prioritized recovery plan. Phase 1 is a standalone build — it does not depend on other in-flight workstreams. Scope — Phase 1, five milestones • Room and asset registry: permanent room records with nested assets, attribute history, and floor plan coordinate mapping • Inspection sessions and findings: templates, two-axis severity, condition tiers, full finding state model, re-inspection mode • Mobile walk experience and resilient capture: camera-first UI, offline-tolerant upload queue with retry, resumable transfer, integrity hashing, and guaranteed ordering • Disposition engine: routing findings to one of several outcomes, with grouping and recommendation-for-review • Costing, capacity modeling, and a generated, versioned recovery plan document No AI work in this phase. A full written scope document with per-milestone acceptance criteria is provided before work starts. Required • Strong PHP and CodeIgniter experience, specifically with legacy CI 2.x — not CI 4, not Laravel • Comfortable working inside a large existing codebase and following its conventions rather than introducing your own • MySQL schema design, including multi-tenant data isolation • Mobile-web UI that works reliably on a phone in real conditions — one-handed, outdoors, on poor connectivity • Experience with resilient file upload: queuing, retry, resumable transfer, integrity verification • Git workflow with pull requests against a shared develop branch Nice to have • Hospitality, field service, facilities, or property management software experience • Offline-tolerant or intermittent-connectivity application experience How we work — please read before applying • Work is milestone-based. Each milestone is defined in writing with explicit acceptance criteria before it begins. • A milestone is accepted when it is delivered at 100% of scope in a single pull request to develop, and verified working on our live development database with file, table, and column level evidence. • Screenshots, demo videos, and migration files on their own are not accepted as evidence of completion. • Every milestone is reviewed by an independent auditor against the written scope. • Payment releases on a passed audit at 100%. Partial delivery does not release payment. • Architectural boundaries are enforced. This module integrates with existing systems and must not duplicate them. Building a parallel version of something that already exists fails the milestone even if it works. This is a demanding process and it is not a fit for everyone. It is also completely predictable: the scope is written down, the criteria are known in advance, and there are no moving goalposts. Developers who deliver complete work get paid on time and get continued milestones. Phase 2 and Phase 3 follow this phase. Trial structure Milestone 1 is the trial. It is a self-contained schema and registry milestone with clear acceptance criteria. If it passes audit, we continue through the remaining Phase 1 milestones with the same developer. To apply Generic proposals will not be read. Please answer these four questions directly: 1. What is the largest CodeIgniter 2.x codebase you have worked in, and what did you build in it? 2. Describe how you would handle photo uploads from a phone that loses connectivity partway through a batch of 40 images, where order and completeness matter. 3. How do you approach enforcing multi-tenant data isolation at the query layer in CI 2.x? 4. What is your availability per week, and what is your timezone? Engagement: Fixed price per milestone.
