Technical Lead / Web AI Developer

Fluent English (C1/C2) | $30 to $60 per hour | Long-Term Upwork Contract About the Role We are a growing B2B software agency looking for a dependable, client-facing technical professional to become a long-term, trusted member of our team. This is not simply a developer position or a one-time project. We are looking for someone who can become the founder’s right-hand person, helping manage client communication, lead technical discovery, coordinate project requirements, and support multiple projects simultaneously. The ideal candidate has a strong software development background but also enjoys working directly with clients. You should be comfortable leading discovery calls, participating in technical interviews, identifying unclear or missing requirements, and helping clients turn their ideas into well-defined software projects. This is not primarily a hands-on coding role. However, you must understand how modern software products are planned, designed, developed, tested, deployed, and maintained. For the right person, this can become a long-term engagement lasting four years or more. Key Responsibilities * Lead discovery calls and early technical discussions with prospective and existing clients * Understand each client’s business goals, technical needs, priorities, and constraints * Ask practical technical and business questions to clarify project requirements * Identify missing requirements, scope concerns, dependencies, and technical risks * Discuss possible technical approaches in a clear, client-friendly manner * Convert client conversations into structured requirements and actionable notes * Communicate requirements clearly to developers, designers, and project stakeholders * Stay involved during project delivery when technical clarification or client communication is needed * Manage multiple conversations, projects, and priorities without losing important details * Maintain consistent, professional, and responsive communication with clients * Use AI tools effectively to support research, documentation, communication, and daily workflows Required Qualifications * Professional experience as a software developer * Mid-level or senior-level technical knowledge * Strong understanding of one or more of the following: * Full-stack web development * React and Node.js * CMS development * E-commerce development * Mobile application development * Experience participating in client calls, technical interviews, discovery sessions, or requirements gathering discussions * Ability to translate client conversations into clear technical and business requirements * Good judgment when identifying scope issues, missing information, technical risks, and unrealistic expectations * Excellent spoken and written English at a fluent or near-native level (C1/C2) * Reliable availability during Eastern Time business hours * Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously * A responsible, proactive, and highly dependable working style * Comfort using AI tools as part of your daily work The Person We Are Looking For We are looking for more than technical ability.
