Full-Stack Developer – Small AI Feature Integration (Next.js + API)

We run a web-based catalog platform and are looking for a senior-level full-stack developer to implement a small AI-powered enhancement on top of our existing codebase. This is a focused, short task (~$150 budget) with potential for future follow-up work if it goes well. The feature is already scoped — you’ll be extending existing functionality, not building from scratch. Scope – what you'll do: 1. Review a specific part of our existing Next.js + Node.js codebase (well-structured, documented). 2. Integrate a simple AI API (e.g., OpenAI or similar) into an existing backend route. 3. Add a small UI component (React) to trigger the feature and display results. 4. Process and map the AI response into our current data structure (no schema redesign needed). 5. Handle basic edge cases (empty responses, timeouts, malformed output). 6. Follow existing logging and error-handling patterns. 7. Write a couple of lightweight tests and brief documentation. Example task (for context): Generate short product descriptions or tags from existing item data using an AI API and display them in the admin panel. Working setup / constraints: - Work on a development environment only (no production access). - Follow existing architecture and coding conventions. - Async collaboration with our lead developer. Required skills: - Strong Next.js + React experience - TypeScript + Node.js - Experience integrating external APIs (especially AI APIs is a plus) - Basic understanding of prompt structuring and response handling - Prisma (or similar ORM) + PostgreSQL - Clean Git workflow and readable code Nice to have: - Prior AI feature integration (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.) - Experience with small, well-scoped product enhancements - Vercel deployment familiarity Budget & timeline: - Fixed budget: ~$150 - Expected turnaround: 1–3 days Please include in your proposal: - 1–2 relevant examples (especially AI or API integrations) - Your availability If you're a real person, please start your proposal with: "Small but sharp."
