Create a WordPress site for user submitted stories

I want to create a WordPress website where users can post their spicy stories and read the stories posted by others. The main functionalities that the site will need to have are: 1) Users can register and create/personalize their profiles 2) Users can submit their stories, and after approval, they are published 3) Simple and easy to navigate design I know that points 1 and 2 can be achieved using a combination of the plugins Ultimate Member & WP User Frontend. So the main thing that I need you to help me with is selecting a theme and customizing the design of the site.
