Web Developer (Directory & Data-Driven Websites Specialist)

About the Role We are seeking a highly experienced Web Developer with deep expertise in building, scaling, and optimizing phone directory-style websites. This is not a basic web development role. We are looking for someone who understands large datasets, search functionality, SEO at scale, and user behavior within directory-driven platforms. If you have worked on sites involving phone lookups, business directories, reverse search tools, or large database-driven websites, this role is for you. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain large-scale directory-based websites Build and optimize search functionality (phone number lookup, filtering, indexing) Structure and manage large datasets (millions of records if needed) Implement fast, scalable database architecture Optimize site performance (speed, indexing, crawlability) Develop SEO-friendly URL structures and internal linking systems Work with structured data (schema markup) for enhanced search visibility Improve user experience and conversion on high-traffic pages Troubleshoot and resolve performance bottlenecks Collaborate with marketing and SEO teams on growth strategies Required Experience Proven experience building or working on: Phone directory sites Reverse phone lookup tools Business listing or data-driven websites Strong understanding of: Database design (MySQL, PostgreSQL, or similar) Backend development (PHP, Python, Node.js, etc.) Frontend technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) Experience handling large-scale data and indexing Knowledge of SEO for programmatic pages Experience with APIs, scraping, or data ingestion pipelines (a big plus) Technical Skills Backend: PHP, Python, Node.js (at least one strongly preferred) Frontend: JavaScript, modern frameworks a plus Databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL, or NoSQL solutions Familiarity with cloud hosting (AWS, DigitalOcean, etc.) Experience with caching systems (Redis, CDN, etc.) What We’re Looking For Someone who has real-world experience with directory-style sites, not just standard websites Strong problem solver who can handle scale and complexity Detail-oriented and performance-focused Able to work independently and deliver results Bonus (Nice to Have) Experience with web scraping or data aggregation Knowledge of compliance considerations around phone data Experience with high-traffic sites (100K+ monthly visitors) Familiarity with tools like Ahrefs, SEMrush, or Google Search Console
