Reports to: Lead Engineer Type: Full-time Stack: Laravel, Flutter, Svelte, AWS, AI-assisted development
About the Role
We’re a small, fast-moving engineering team shipping SaaS products, client platforms, and mobile apps, often several in parallel. We’re hiring an Associate Engineer to work directly with our Lead Engineer and multiply his output.
We are an AI-native team. Every project here is built with agentic coding tools (Claude Code and similar) doing a large share of the implementation work. Your job is to direct that machinery well, decompose problems, drive AI agents through them, review what they produce with a critical eye, and ship the result. If you still write every line by hand, this role will feel foreign. If you’ve learned to get 5x throughput out of AI tooling without letting quality slip, you’ll feel at home.
What You’ll Do
Take high-level asks (“add subscriptions to this app”, “the verification flow is failing on Android, fix it”) and deliver finished, tested, deployed work, filling in the gaps with sound judgment rather than a long list of questions.
Build and maintain Laravel backends: APIs, admin panels (Filament), queued jobs, billing (Stripe/Cashier), auth (Sanctum/Fortify), real-time features.
Build and maintain Flutter apps end-to-end, UI, state management, native integrations (camera, ML Kit), and store releases.
Ship web frontends with Svelte 5 + Inertia and Tailwind, reusing existing component patterns.
Handle the operational side: deployments, AWS (S3, Rekognition), Docker/Sail environments, queue monitoring (Horizon), debugging production issues.
Drive AI coding agents through implementation: write effective task specs, set up per-project agent configuration (CLAUDE.md, skills, hooks), build automations that remove repetitive prompting and manual steps from the team’s workflow.
Keep the Lead Engineer’s plate clear, own the recurring, the unglamorous, and the “can you just handle this?” work, and keep him informed with short, outcome-first updates.
What We’re Looking For
Must have
2+ years building production apps with Laravel (we run 11 to 13; Eloquent, migrations, queues, policies, second nature to you).
Solid Flutter/Dart experience, you’ve shipped at least one real app to the stores.
Daily, fluent use of AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot or similar) as your primary way of working, including reviewing and correcting AI output, not just accepting it.
Comfort with cloud and deployment basics: AWS S3, Docker, environment config, getting a Laravel app live and keeping it there.
Self-direction. Given an ambiguous goal, you produce a plan and start executing. You ask questions when a decision genuinely isn’t yours to make, not as a substitute for thinking.
Clear, concise written communication. You report outcomes, not activity.
Nice to have
Filament admin panels; Livewire; Inertia.js with Svelte or React.
Spatie package ecosystem (Permission, Medialibrary, Activitylog).
Stripe/PayPal integrations; Ably or WebSockets; Pest testing.
Experience building agentic automations or internal AI workflows (MCP servers, agent scripts, scheduled agents).
Agency or multi-project experience, context-switching across codebases without losing the thread.
How We Work
Modern, opinionated stack: latest Laravel, Pest (no PHPUnit), Pint, strict typing, Tailwind v4. We upgrade early and keep codebases current.
Per-project conventions live in the repo (CLAUDE.md); we expect them to be read and followed, by humans and agents alike.
Quality gates are non-negotiable: lint, type-check, and tests pass before anything ships.
Small team, no bureaucracy. Trust is the currency, it’s earned by work that doesn’t need to be redone.
