We are looking for a FreeCAD CAM specialist to work with us long term, creating production-ready CAM projects and G-code for CNC manufacturing using FreeCAD's Path/CAM Workbench.
This is a manufacturing role, not a CAD design role. The models will already exist—you'll be responsible for creating efficient machining strategies and reliable CNC programs.
This is FreeCAD-native. We are not looking for Fusion 360, SolidWorks CAM, Mastercam, Vectric, or other CAM software experience unless you also have strong FreeCAD CAM experience.
What you'll do
Create complete CAM setups in FreeCAD's Path/CAM Workbench.
Generate production-ready G-code for CNC routers and milling machines.
Select appropriate tooling, feeds, speeds, stepovers, and machining strategies.
Optimise toolpaths to reduce machining time while maintaining excellent surface finish and accuracy.
Develop reusable CAM templates and machining workflows.
Test, troubleshoot, and refine machining operations.
Work closely with our engineering team to improve manufacturability.
Must-haves
Demonstrable experience using FreeCAD Path/CAM Workbench.
Strong understanding of CNC machining principles.
Experience producing reliable production-ready G-code.
Knowledge of tooling, cutting parameters, workholding, and machining best practices.
Ability to optimise toolpaths for efficiency and tool life.
Reliable, communicative, and able to work independently.
Strong pluses (not required)
Experience developing or modifying FreeCAD post-processors.
Python scripting or FreeCAD macro development.
Experience with CNC routers machining wood, MDF, plywood, plastics, and aluminium.
Experience with adaptive, trochoidal, pocketing, profiling, drilling, and engraving operations.
Knowledge of nesting strategies for sheet materials.
Experience with industrial CNC controllers (Mach3/4, LinuxCNC, Masso, Syntec, Fanuc, etc.).
To apply, please include
Examples of FreeCAD CAM projects you've created.
Sample G-code or screenshots of your toolpaths (if possible).
Which CNC machines/controllers you've generated code for.
Your availability (hours per week).
Your hourly rate.
This is an ongoing position for someone who can consistently produce efficient, reliable CAM programs for manufacturing.
