Description:
I need an experienced full-stack developer to build a self-hosted, local-network (no cloud) greenhouse monitoring and control system, based on a completed technical specification/dissertation. I'll share the full document (architecture, data model, API reference, and UI designs) once we connect.
Project overview:
The system connects ESP32-based sensor/actuator nodes to a Laravel web application over the local network (no cloud dependency). It monitors environmental conditions and automates irrigation, ventilation, and fertigation for small-to-medium greenhouse operators.
Tech stack:
Backend: Laravel 10, MySQL
Frontend: Bootstrap, Chart.js
Firmware: ESP32 (C++/Arduino), communicating via JSON over HTTP
Testing: PHPUnit
Core features needed:
Role-based access control (administrator and operator roles)
Live and historical sensor visualization (temperature, humidity, soil moisture, water level, gas level, rain, motion)
Device authentication via per-device API key (X-Device-Key header)
Configurable warning/critical thresholds with an alert and acknowledgement workflow
Manual actuator control panel (irrigation pump, ventilation fan, 2 valves, fertiliser pump)
Real-time, rule-based automation engine that reacts to incoming sensor readings
Fertigation scheduling (independent of the irrigation cycle)
CSV/PDF reporting
Support for multiple greenhouses and devices under one deployment
ESP32 firmware for authenticated, bidirectional communication with the server
Deliverables:
Fully functional Laravel web application matching the provided data model and API spec
ESP32 firmware for sensor/actuator nodes
Automated PHPUnit test suite
Basic deployment/setup documentation
Ideal candidate:
Strong experience with Laravel (routing, middleware, Eloquent, queues)
Comfortable with embedded/IoT development (ESP32, Arduino framework, HTTP/JSON)
Experience building rule-based automation or event-driven logic
Can work from a detailed existing spec and ask good clarifying questions
