PHP Developer (Symfony) – Senior Level at EdTech company

We are looking for an experienced PHP Developer (Symfony) to join our remote team and help build scalable backend services that power our web and mobile applications. This role can begin on a part-time basis with the potential to transition into a full-time, long-term position. Responsibilities - Develop and maintain backend services and RESTful APIs using PHP and Symfony. - Design, implement, and optimize scalable application architecture. - Collaborate closely with frontend and mobile developers to deliver seamless user experiences. - Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following industry best practices. - Optimize application performance, database queries, and system reliability. - Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve issues across development, staging, and production environments. - Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and architectural planning. - Contribute to continuous improvement of development processes and engineering standards. Requirements / Must-Have Skills - 5+ years of professional experience with object-oriented PHP 8+ development. - Strong expertise with Symfony and its ecosystem (Doctrine ORM, Dependency Injection, Events, etc.). - Experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs. - Experience with API Platform. - Solid understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and best practices. - Strong SQL skills and experience with MySQL and/or PostgreSQL. - Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows. - Excellent debugging, problem-solving, and performance optimization skills. - Strong written and spoken English communication skills. - Ability to work independently in a remote environment. Experience Level - Senior - Able to take ownership of tasks with minimal supervision. - Mentoring experience is a plus. Nice-to-Have Qualifications - Drupal development experience. - Experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP). - Familiarity with PHPUnit and automated testing practices. - Experience in EdTech or e-learning platforms. - Knowledge of SCORM, xAPI, or other learning technologies. - Contributions to open-source projects or active involvement in the PHP/Symfony community.
