We're building Onwards, a warm, intentional app that helps two partners turn shared dreams into plans, small steps, rituals, and memories. It runs on iOS, Android, and web from a single Expo codebase.
The foundation is already built and working end-to-end: design system, auth, a 7-step onboarding flow, and the core database schema with row-level security. We now need an experienced developer to build out the remaining feature set on top of a clean, well-documented base. This is feature delivery, not a from-scratch build — the architecture, product spec, and conventions are already defined and must be followed.
We have detailed written specifications for every feature. You will not be guessing what to build.
Tech Stack (must have hands-on experience)
- Expo (SDK 57) + React Native 0.86 + React 19 — one codebase for iOS, Android, and web
- Expo Router (file-based routing)
- TypeScript (strict mode)
- Supabase — PostgreSQL, Row-Level Security (RLS), auth, edge functions, storage
- TanStack Query for data fetching/caching
- Zod for validation, React Hook Form
- pnpm
- GenAI API integration (image generation + transcription via edge functions), push notifications (Expo), Playwright/Detox testing.
What You'll Be Building
Working feature-by-feature ("vertical slices"), roughly in priority order:
1. Invitations - shareable link, email invite, and 8-char code; the RPCs + edge function to create/accept them (partner connection flow)
2. Dreams board - create/edit/delete/view dreams, categories, statuses, cover images (upload / URL / AI-generated)
3. Small Steps - checklist items with assignment and progress
4. Cheers, Milestones, Little Joys - the social/celebration layer
5. Week view, Saves, Memory Wall
6. Voice Companion - record → transcribe → interpret → confirm → save
7. AI image generation via a server-side gateway
8. Push notifications
9. Testing (Vitest unit + adversarial RLS tests + smoke tests) and analytics/monitoring wiring
Each feature has a written spec that defines exactly what's in scope.
Non-Negotiables
- RLS-first mindset. This app keeps personal content private and shared content shared. Every database change must be reasoned about for security implications. Experience writing and testing Postgres RLS policies is essential.
- Match the existing design system — no hard-coded colors, spacing, or fonts. Reuse the existing primitives.
- Ship typecheck-clean, lint-clean, tested code. pnpm typecheck, pnpm lint, and pnpm test must pass.
- Every screen needs loading, empty, and error states.
- Read the relevant spec before writing code; implement only the requested slice and flag follow-ups rather than silently expanding scope.
About the Collaboration
I am the founder and product owner (non-technical). The product vision, specs, and design direction are clear and documented. I need a developer who can own implementation independently, communicate clearly in plain language, and move fast without cutting corners on security or quality.
To Apply, Please Include
1. Examples of Expo/React Native apps you've shipped to the App Store / Play Store (links preferred)
2. A specific example where you designed or debugged Supabase RLS policies
3. Your experience shipping the same codebase to iOS, Android, and web
4. Your availability (hours/week) and typical turnaround
5. Answer this so I know you read the post: What's your approach to keeping one user's private data invisible to a connected partner in Postgres?
