We're looking for an experienced Magento Certified Developer (or higher) to join us on an ongoing, as-needed basis to provide backend-focused technical consulting and support for one of our clients.
This client uses Magento as a backend/commerce engine integrated into their SaaS product — not as a traditional storefront. So this role is about APIs, data, integrations, and backend architecture, not theming or front-end storefront work. This is a part-time, recurring engagement — approximately 10 hours per month — not a full project build. Some months may be lighter, others may require more hours; we're looking for someone flexible and responsive who can be a reliable long-term technical resource.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Provide expert consulting on Magento's backend architecture, data model, and APIs (REST/GraphQL/SOAP) as they relate to a SaaS integration
- Troubleshoot issues with API calls, data sync, webhooks, and integration points between Magento and the client's SaaS platform
- Review custom modules, integration code, and configurations, and recommend improvements
- Advise on how Magento's order, catalog, customer, and inventory systems interact with external systems
- Advise on upgrades, security patches, and backend compatibility issues
- Implement small backend fixes, API/module customizations, or integration enhancements as needed
- Support performance and scalability concerns related to backend load (indexing, queues, caching, cron)
- Communicate clearly with our engineering team and/or directly with the client on technical matters
- Be available on relatively short notice for urgent, time-sensitive backend/integration issues (occasional)
REQUIREMENTS
- Magento Certified Developer (Adobe Commerce Developer or Magento 2 Certified Developer) required; Certified Expert, Backend Developer Expert, or Solution Specialist credentials a plus
- Strong hands-on experience with Magento 2 / Adobe Commerce backend development (Open Source and/or Commerce edition) — this is not a frontend/theming role
- Deep familiarity with Magento's REST and/or GraphQL APIs, service contracts, and module/plugin architecture
- Experience integrating Magento with external platforms or SaaS products (custom APIs, message queues, webhooks, third-party systems)
- Solid PHP, MySQL, and understanding of Magento's indexing, caching (Varnish/Redis), and cron/queue systems
- Comfortable working independently with minimal oversight
- Strong communication skills and responsiveness — this role depends on reliability more than raw hours
- Prior experience in an ongoing support/consulting capacity (vs. one-off projects) preferred
ENGAGEMENT DETAILS
- Hours: ~10 hours/month on average, as-needed (may fluctuate month to month)
- Duration: Ongoing, long-term relationship (not a fixed-term project)
- Availability: Should be able to respond within a reasonable window when urgent issues arise
- Rate: Please share your hourly rate and availability in your proposal
HOW TO APPLY
Please include:
1. Proof of Magento certification (certificate name/level)
2. A brief summary of your Magento 2 / Adobe Commerce backend and API experience
3. Any experience integrating Magento with external platforms, SaaS products, or third-party systems
4. Your typical response time/availability for ad-hoc requests
5. Your hourly rate
We're looking to build a long-term working relationship with the right person, so reliability and clear communication matter as much as technical skill.
