Backend Developer (FastAPI / Python) — South America, Fluent English — Short-Term

About the role We're looking for a skilled Backend Developer specializing in FastAPI (Python) to build and ship a well-structured REST API for a short-term project. You'll write clean, tested, production-ready code and collaborate closely with our project manager and team. ⚠️ Location requirement (please read): This role is open ONLY to candidates based in South America, no AGENCIES. Applicants outside of South America will not be considered, regardless of qualifications. You must also be fluent in written and spoken English. What you'll do - Design, build, and maintain RESTful APIs using FastAPI - Model data and write efficient queries (PostgreSQL / SQLAlchemy or similar) - Implement authentication, validation (Pydantic), and error handling - Write clean, documented, testable code with automated tests - Integrate third-party APIs and services as needed - Collaborate via Git and participate in async standups / code reviews What we're looking for - Strong hands-on experience with Python and FastAPI (please include examples) - Solid understanding of REST API design, async programming, and Pydantic - Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL) and an ORM (SQLAlchemy) - Comfortable with Git-based workflows - Fluent English — clear written and verbal communication - Based in South America (required) - Self-directed, reliable, and strong at meeting deadlines Nice to have - Docker / containerized deployments - CI/CD experience - Cloud experience (AWS / GCP) - Experience with Alembic migrations, Celery/background tasks, or Redis - Testing with pytest To apply In your proposal, please: (1) confirm your country of residence, (2) share links to FastAPI projects or code samples (GitHub welcome), and (3) briefly describe your experience with async APIs and databases.
