3DS to AutoCAD Solid Conversion

I have a single .3ds file that needs to be rebuilt as a true solid body in AutoCAD, not just imported as a faceted mesh. The finished model has to open cleanly in AutoCAD so I can section it, add dimensions, and make further edits without chasing surface errors or missing faces...
