Senior WordPress Technical Consultant

Webrecruit is seeking an experienced Senior WordPress Technical Consultant to undertake a comprehensive technical assessment of our existing WordPress estate as the first phase of a wider stabilisation and modernisation programme. This is an opportunity to take ownership of a complex, business-critical WordPress platform that has evolved over many years and requires structured technical assessment before remediation and future hosting modernisation. The initial engagement is expected to last approximately 2–3 weeks and will focus on discovery, technical assessment, governance and planning. Subject to a successful outcome, there is significant potential for the successful consultant to lead the subsequent implementation phases over the coming months. At the completion of the initial engagement, the consultant should provide: 1. Comprehensive Technical Assessment Report 2. Platform Architecture & Dependency 3. Governance & Operational Assessment 4. Risk Register 5. Phased Delivery Plan Future Opportunity The successful consultant will have the opportunity to continue into later phases of the programme, including: ● PHP and database upgrades ● Plugin rationalisation ● Security hardening ● Performance optimisation ● SEO validation ● HubSpot and analytics remediation ● Hosting modernisation ● Platform migration ● Ongoing technical governance ● Documentation and knowledge transfer Our preference is to retain the same consultant throughout the programme to ensure continuity of knowledge and technical ownership. Essential Skills We're looking for someone with demonstrable experience in: ● WordPress platform architecture ● Legacy WordPress environments ● WordPress migrations ● PHP development & version upgrades ● Elementor ● WPBakery / Visual Composer ● Plugin dependency analysis ● Performance troubleshooting ● Hosting migrations ● Environment setup and configuration ● Backup and disaster recovery ● MySQL/MariaDB ● Technical SEO ● HREFLANG implementation ● Google Tag Manager ● Google Analytics 4 ● HubSpot integrations ● Diagnosing complex WordPress issues ● Producing clear technical documentation What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who enjoys investigating complex technical problems and can confidently assess, document, and modernise legacy WordPress platforms. This role is not about designing websites or developing new pages.
