We are seeking an experienced iOS developer to convert our Progressive Web App (PWA) into a native iOS app. The project involves creating a native wrapper for the PWA and ensuring the app is approved for the App Store. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Swift and iOS development, as well as experience with the App Store review process. This is a part-time engagement. The Objective We need a robust WKWebView wrapper built in Xcode that integrates specific native hardware features and overcomes standard iOS web view limitations. Crucially, the app must include enough native functionality and UI integration to pass Apple’s App Store Guideline 4.2 (Minimum Functionality). The Android app currently works. We now need the iOS app. Key Responsibilities Build the Native Shell: Create a WKWebView container that loads our existing PWA, incorporating native navigation elements (e.g., native bottom tabs or a settings menu) to satisfy App Store review requirements. Implement Push Notifications (APNs): Web Push is blocked in WKWebView. You will need to implement native Apple Push Notifications in Swift, capture the device tokens, and build a bridge to pass notification payloads down to our JavaScript frontend. Native Camera Bridge: Create a bi-directional bridge (WKScriptMessageHandler) that allows our web app to trigger the native iOS camera. The Swift code must capture the photo, compress it (JPEG), downscale it to prevent memory bloat, and pass it back to our Elementor frontend (via Base64 or local file URL) so our existing backend can handle the upload. Service Worker Configuration: Configure WKAppBoundDomains and necessary Swift properties to allow our existing service worker to function as reliably as possible for offline caching within the web view. App Store Deployment: Handle the provisioning, archiving, and App Store Connect submission process, working with us to resolve any rejection feedback from Apple regarding Guideline 4.2. Required Skills & Experience: - Proven experience building iOS applications in Swift. - Deep understanding of WKWebView, JavaScript injection (evaluateJavaScript), and WKScriptMessageHandler. - Prior success getting wrapped web apps or hybrid apps approved through the Apple App Store (Guideline 4.2 experience is a strict requirement). - Experience configuring Apple Push Notification service (APNs). - Ability to work cleanly alongside an existing frontend team (no modifications to our PHP/Google Apps Script backend should be required; you will handle the data handoff to our JS UI).
