Senior React Frontend Engineer for Production Ordering Platform

We are looking for a senior frontend engineer to improve an existing production SaaS platform used for complex catering and meal-ordering operations. This is not a greenfield build or a full redesign. The platform is already live and has active users. The immediate goal is to make the current product more reliable, intuitive, responsive, and visually consistent. You will work primarily on the React frontend while occasionally tracing issues through REST APIs and the Python backend. Many tasks involve more than styling. You may need to investigate state synchronization, multi-step ordering flows, permissions, cart persistence, delivery information, and API behavior. We need someone who can enter an existing codebase, understand the product workflow, identify the root cause of an issue, and implement focused improvements without disrupting production behavior. What You Will Work On * Improve existing React screens and multi-step ordering workflows * Fix UI inconsistencies involving spacing, typography, forms, cards, buttons, and interaction states * Debug state mismatches between menus, headcount, selected items, carts, and checkout * Improve dashboard, schedule, restaurant selection, menu, cart, and order-history screens * Simplify confusing workflows without introducing unnecessary new features * Improve responsive behavior across desktop, tablet, and mobile * Refactor repeated inline styles into maintainable CSS classes where appropriate * Strengthen loading, validation, empty, error, and confirmation states * Protect role-based views and prevent internal financial information from appearing to customer-facing users * Trace frontend issues through REST requests and backend responses * Verify changes in development and deployed preview environments * Submit small, focused pull requests with clear descriptions and before-and-after screenshots Current Technology Stack Frontend: * React 19 * Vite * JavaScript and JSX * React Router * React hooks and context * Plain CSS and inline styles * Local storage for cart and selected-team persistence * Vercel Backend: * Python * FastAPI * AWS Lambda * DynamoDB * REST APIs Infrastructure and integrations include: * GitHub Actions * AWS SAM * Stripe * Google Geocoding * Address verification * Delivery and tracking webhooks * AI-assisted parsing of schedules and order information The role is primarily frontend-focused, but you should be comfortable reading backend code and following data through an API when necessary. Required Experience * 5+ years of professional frontend development experience * Strong production experience with React and JavaScript * Experience debugging complex state across multiple screens * Strong plain CSS and responsive layout skills * Experience improving an inherited or existing production codebase * Ability to build accessible forms, modals, controls, tables, and interactive components * Strong understanding of REST APIs, authentication, and request/response debugging * Familiarity with Git branches, pull requests, code reviews, and CI/CD * Ability to understand business workflows rather than treating every issue as a visual bug * Strong communication and task-prioritization skills Valuable Experience The following experience would be especially useful: * Python or FastAPI * AWS Lambda, DynamoDB, and S3 * Vercel deployments * Role-based access control * E-commerce, ordering, logistics, marketplace, or operations software * Cart and checkout workflows * Address validation or geocoding * Stripe or delivery-service integrations * Accessibility and frontend performance * Introducing frontend tests into an application without an existing formal test suite What We Value Most We are not looking for someone who immediately recommends rewriting the application.
