We're a small, founder-led company — my wife and me — running a portfolio of short-term rentals with the help of a team of virtual assistants. To run it well, we're building our own platform that automates the operational grind: guest messaging, task coordination, smart-device control, and more, with AI woven through all of it. It integrates with the tools we already use — Hospitable, Twilio, Resend, Ring, and others.
Right now the goal is simple: build the best possible platform for running our own business. Everything you ship gets used the same day, by us and by our VAs. Longer term it could become a product other hosts use too — but that's the horizon, not the day job.
About the role
You'll use Claude (and Claude Code) as your main tool — directing it to write features, then testing and cleaning up what it produces before it ships. The codebase already has its standards and patterns built in, so you don't need to be an architect; you need to prompt well, get working features out the door, and notice when something's off. You'll also work closely with our VAs, who use the product all day and are your best source of bug reports and improvement ideas.
This is a hands-on building role for someone who's fast, resourceful, and good at getting results out of AI.
What you'll actually do
Ship working features — from a rough idea to a working, tested feature in our TypeScript codebase (Next.js, plus some backend services), mostly by directing AI and refining its output.
Prompt AI well — break tasks down, give the AI what it needs, iterate until the result is right. This is the core skill.
Test what you build — actually run the app, click through it, and confirm it works before calling it done. Catch the obvious stuff: broken buttons, wrong numbers, pages that don't load.
Work with our VAs — help them test new features, collect their feedback, and turn what's slowing them down into fixes and improvements.
Wear every hat — some days you're building, some days you're QAing, some days you're on a quick call with a VA figuring out why a workflow feels clunky.
Who you are
A genuine self-starter. You take a loosely-defined task, figure it out, and drive it to done without hand-holding. You ask good questions when you're stuck and you close loops.
An excellent prompter. You get great results out of AI tools because you're specific, you iterate, and you know how to break a task down so the AI can nail it.
An eye for detail. You test your own work and notice when something's off — a broken button, a wrong figure, inconsistent styling, a page that doesn't load. "Looks fine" without checking isn't your style.
Comfortable in code. You can read TypeScript, follow how a full-stack app fits together, and get hands-on when the AI needs correcting — but your superpower is directing AI to build, not hand-writing everything yourself.
Good with people. You can run a quick testing session with a VA, ask the right questions, and communicate clearly in writing.
Our stack
TypeScript · Next.js (App Router) · Node/Fastify backend services · Postgres · Tailwind + shadcn/ui · integrations with Hospitable, Twilio, Resend, Ring. You'll work primarily through Claude Code, which already knows our conventions.
Nice to have
- Experience with short-term rentals, hospitality, or property management
- Experience working with or coordinating remote/VA teams
- Comfort with APIs and third-party integrations
How to apply
Reply with a short note on something you've built mostly with AI, plus your hourly rate. Strong applicants will be invited to a short paid test task.
