Senior FortiGate SD-WAN & Security Engineer Location: [Remote] Employment Type: Contract (Long Term) Experience Required: 10+ Years About the Role We are seeking an experienced and highly capable Senior FortiGate SD-WAN & Security Engineer to join our Network and Security Engineering team. This is a senior-level technical role focused on the design, deployment, optimisation, and support of complex Fortinet environments across enterprise and service provider networks. The ideal candidate will possess deep hands-on expertise with FortiGate SD-WAN, advanced security services, and large-scale multi-VDOM and multi-ADOM deployments. You will play a key role in architecting secure, resilient, and scalable infrastructures while providing technical leadership and operational excellence. Key Responsibilities • Design, implement, and support enterprise-grade Fortinet security and SD-WAN solutions • Manage large-scale FortiGate deployments operating across multiple VDOMs and FortiManager ADOMs • Architect and maintain secure multi-tenant network environments • Lead FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer administration, policy management, and automation initiatives • Deploy and optimise FortiGate SD-WAN fabrics across DIA, broadband, LTE, and hybrid cloud connectivity • Configure and troubleshoot: o BGP, OSPF, static routing, ECMP o IPsec VPNs and ADVPN o High Availability (HA) o SSL inspection and security profiles o Application control, IPS, antivirus, web filtering, and Zero Trust access • Perform advanced troubleshooting for complex routing, performance, and security issues • Develop standards, operational procedures, and technical documentation for operational teams • Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and support teams • Participate in architecture reviews, change management, and incident response activities • Collaborate with customers, vendors, and internal stakeholders on solution delivery • Assist with capacity planning, upgrades, and security hardening initiatives Required Skills & Experience Essential • Minimum 10 years’ experience in network security engineering • Extensive hands-on experience with: o FortiGate Firewalls o FortiManager o FortiAnalyzer o FortiOS • Proven experience managing: o Multi-VDOM environments o Multi-ADOM architectures • Strong expertise in: o Fortinet SD-WAN o Advanced routing and switching o Enterprise firewall policy design o Secure segmentation and multi-tenancy • Deep understanding of: o TCP/IP networking o Layer 3 routing protocols o VPN technologies o Network security best practices • Experience with cloud integrations including AWS and Azure • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills on both FMG and CLI • Excellent communication and documentation abilities Desirable • Experience with: o FortiSASE o FortiAuthenticator o FortiNAC o FortiSIEM • Automation experience using: o REST APIs o Python o Ansible o Terraform • Exposure to MSP and/or large enterprise environments • ITIL process familiarity Preferred Certifications • NSE 7 – Enterprise Firewall • NSE 7 – SD-WAN • NSE 8 (Highly desirable but not essential) • Fortinet Certified Expert (FCX) • CCNP / CCIE Security (advantageous) What We Offer • Opportunity to work on large-scale, complex Fortinet deployments • Exposure to cutting-edge SD-WAN and cybersecurity technologies • Collaborative and highly technical engineering environment • Professional development and certification support • Competitive salary and benefits package • Flexible working arrangements Ideal Candidate Profile You are a senior engineer who thrives in complex enterprise environments and can confidently lead both operational and project-based initiatives.
