React Dashboard Developer — Business Performance Insights Tool (Paid Pilot)

Project overview We're a small business looking to build a lightweight web dashboard that reads our point-of-sale data and tells us what changed and why — not another wall of KPI charts. Instead of a dozen equal-weight metrics, we want the app to rank what moved by dollar impact, filter out noise (like a small percentage swing on a tiny base), and surface a short written summary a busy owner can read in 10 seconds. This is a paid pilot — the first in what we expect will be a recurring series of small, focused builds. We're hiring for this specific project, but really evaluating a longer-term working relationship. What you'll build (clear deliverables) A React (Tailwind or similar) single-page front end showing prioritized business metrics and trends A lightweight backend that connects to our data source via REST API, pulls daily snapshots, and stores/rolls them up over time (day → week → month → quarter) A ranking/triage layer: sort by absolute dollar change, apply a materiality threshold so small-base percentage swings don't dominate, and generate a short plain-language summary of what matters Skills required Strong, demonstrable React front-end experience — please link to live, working projects, not just descriptions Direct experience integrating REST APIs into an application (you'll be wiring up our data source yourself) Nice to have: Tailwind CSS, prior dashboard/data-viz work, any LLM API integration (OpenAI, Anthropic) for a possible future phase How we like to work We work from a written product brief and expect you to ask clarifying questions rather than guess at ambiguity. We'll do a short kickoff to align on the brief, then check in at clear milestones rather than needing daily updates; we value people who flag blockers or open questions early instead of disappearing until "done." Scope & timeline Medium-scope, short-term pilot: roughly 1–3 months, under 30 hrs/week.
