Senior Full Stack Developer (Node/React/GCP) — Own Product Engineering at a Body-Scanning Startup

Our widget embeds on e-commerce storefronts for both ready-to-wear and made-to-measure brands. About the role We are hiring a senior full stack developer to own product engineering end to end. Our founding engineer is moving to a part-time advisory role, so you will be the primary builder. You will take high-level product direction from a non-technical CEO and turn ambiguous goals into shipped, reliable features, with light technical guidance (about an hour a week). Expect high autonomy, real ownership, a modern stack, and heavy use of AI coding agents. You will not be handed detailed specs. You will be trusted to make sound architecture and product calls on your own. The work A sense of what the role can involve, drawn from our recent roadmap: installing the fit-prediction widget on Shopify and custom storefronts, troubleshooting production incidents, building client-facing analytics, adding multi-language support to our web products, creating configurable UI themes for the web widget, unifying our ready-to-wear and made-to-measure web widgets, migrating billing to a tokens-based model, running A/B tests to measure the impact of new features, and scaling our GCP infrastructure to handle increased traffic. Priorities will shift with the business. Our stack Frontend: React 17/18, TypeScript, Tailwind, Vite, some Material-UI/Radix; react-query, Jotai; embedded widgets, a PWA, admin dashboards; Storybook. Backend: Node.js/Express on Google Cloud Run, Docker, Zod, Stripe. GCP / data: Firestore, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Cloud Tasks, Cloud Scheduler, Cloud Run Jobs, Cloud Functions, Cloud Storage, Firebase (Auth + Hosting). Python: Proficiency required. We run Python services (FastAPI/Flask) that you will build and maintain, alongside a body-modeling and inference service you integrate with but do not own. Coding agents: We use AI coding agents heavily and document the codebase for them. Fluency with agentic development is part of the job, not a nice-to-have. You Might Be a Good Fit If You Are: A senior full stack engineer, strong in Node.js, React, and Tailwind. Proficient with Google Cloud Platform and cloud-native architecture (serverless, containers, queues, managed data stores). Proficient in Python, including a web framework such as FastAPI or Flask (you will not build ML models). Experienced building and operating scalable distributed systems. Strong on product judgment and comfortable with ambiguity. You can take a one-line goal and make the dozens of small product decisions needed to ship something good. Self-sufficient end to end. You can carry a big feature from idea to production on your own, making sound architectural calls along the way, without waiting on a designer, PM, or architect to unblock you. Fluent with AI coding agents: you can read an agent's plan and catch architecture problems, spot the wrong framework or approach, and recognize when it is being inefficient or confidently wrong. Fast without cutting corners. You hold a high quality bar, sweat the edge cases, write things down, and still know how to make smart tradeoffs under time pressure. Genuinely energized by building. You take satisfaction in the craft and in seeing hard problems shipped. Comfortable close to the user. You can talk directly with customers, take hard feedback, and fold it back into the product quickly. A collaborative teammate. You communicate tradeoffs clearly, bring people along, and make those around you better. Strong Candidates May Also Have: Prior startup experience, with 0 to 1 and 0 to 100 building. Experience embedding third-party widgets, working with Shopify, or integrating with e-commerce storefronts. Experience with 3D graphics or rendering pipelines. Selection process 45-minute hiring-manager conversation on your background. 45-minute system design interview. 30-minute culture and communication fit interview with the CEO. References, then offer. Compensation Pay for this role ranges from $30 to $53 per hour, determined by your experience level and performance during the interview process. Once you pass the interview process, we will make you an offer with a specified hourly rate. This is followed by a 1-week paid trial, after which you will receive a full-time offer to join the team long-term. The trial period is probationary and can be terminated at any time.
