Data Engineering 1:1 Coaching — Fabric Preferred, Databricks Second

Budget: $40.0 - $50.0 HOURLY / PART_TIME ⭐ 4.94 (12) Spain

databricks-platform, sql, python, apache-spark

I'm hiring a senior data engineer for 1:1 coaching. The goal is straightforward: get me ready to defend my CV in front of senior interviewers and land data engineer positions. From analytics I want to transition to pure data engineering if possible. Honest framing: I already have the interview packaging in place, but it is ahead of what I can currently defend under real technical pressure. That is the gap I want to close, fast. Real opportunities are coming in and I want to close them, not miss them. Candidate preference, in this order: 1. Microsoft Fabric background (main preference). 2. Databricks background (second). 3. Snowflake, Azure, or AWS backgrounds are welcome. Cloud differs, principles are the same. What I want the coaching grounded on: - Core data engineering fundamentals: PySpark, SQL, medallion design, incrementality, idempotency, watermarks, MERGE patterns, testing. - Orchestration (Data Factory, Airflow, Fivetran, Dagster, whichever your stack uses). I want to understand the trade-offs. - Code-first vs UI-first design decisions. - CI/CD and how a real data engineering team ships. Homework and roadmap between sessions: - I want structured work between sessions: pitch refinement I do on my own, technical exercises, portfolio pieces to build. Something concrete to iterate on. - I want a roadmap I can execute independently so the coaching hours compound with self-study, not replace it. Nice to have (bonus, not required): - Experience interviewing or hiring data engineers on your side. Format: - 60-min live video sessions. - 2 hours per week minimum, often more. Flexible scheduling, no fixed weekday. - Pitch document refinement can be done async; hours are logged and paid the same. What we'll do: - Iterate the pitch documents I already have for two real projects: a Fabric medallion build at a large retailer, and a Databricks credit-risk lakehouse at a bank. Detailed .md files already drafted; you critique, press on weak spots, and rewrite the parts that do not hold up. - Mock technical interviews. Push me hard on the parts a senior interviewer would probe. - Assign the homework and roadmap. About me: - Working as a data professional for several years, mostly analytics-leaning, actively moving into pure data engineering. - DP-700 certified. I know certs by themselves do not teach much; that is why I am hiring a coach. - I work AI-heavy. I can deliver the actual engineering work with AI as a force multiplier plus my own judgment. But interviews are a room where AI does not help, so I need to genuinely own the material in my head. That is what this coaching is for. Rate: 40 to 50 USD per hour. I am not looking to minimise hours; I would rather book many sessions and get ready sooner. Tell me about a real data engineering project you have delivered. Architecture, stack, what you built, what was tricky. 2. Portfolio if you have one (Upwork gallery, GitHub, blog post, LinkedIn case study). I don't know if this is against Upwork TOS, if not just leave Upwork portfolio gallery/portfolio is okay. 3. Have you coached or mentored someone into a data engineering role before? If yes, roughly how long did it take and what was your approach. If not, how would you structure roughly a month with me based on the goals above.
