Founding Full-Stack Engineer to Build a "Credit Karma for Background Checks" Platform

Billie is a consumer-facing legal wellness platform that provides users with free access to their own background check records. Think Credit Karma for background records. Through AI-assisted analysis, Billie generates a proprietary Legal Wellness Score to help people understand and monitor their records. Then Billie provides guided tools and a marketplace of legal connections so people can repair any errors or issues in their background. Billie monetizes through referral fees from marketplace service providers and subscriptions. Our initial MVP will provide: Consumer-facing dashboard reflecting background records analysis Public-record monitoring Source-attributed record reporting Alerts and notifications Educational guidance and remediation tools Marketplace of legal, identity theft, and reputation management services Secure user accounts and data management This is an opportunity to help build a mission-driven, but monetized product focused on transparency, consumer rights, and access to justice. We are seeking a senior engineer who can operate as a Founding Engineer and thought partner during Billie's earliest stage. Ideally, we will launch the MVP by September 5, 2026, but we are flexible as necessary. This is not simply a "build what I tell you" engagement. We're looking for someone who can help make key architectural decisions, challenge assumptions, prioritize features, and help determine the fastest path to a scalable MVP. The initial engagement is contract-based, but we are open to a long-term relationship—including a potential future technical leadership role—for the right person. The ideal candidate has experience building SaaS products, consumer applications, data-intensive platforms, and AI-assisted workflows.
