COBOL/CICS Developer with Python/R Automation Experience — Enterprise Application Maintenance & RPA

We are looking for an experienced Mainframe Developer / Automation Engineer to join our team on an ongoing basis to support and modernize our enterprise applications while also building automation solutions using Python and R. This is a hybrid role combining traditional mainframe development (COBOL/CICS/JCL) with modern automation and RPA work. The ideal candidate is comfortable moving between legacy systems maintenance and building new automation frameworks. Responsibilities: Mainframe Development Develop, maintain, and enhance enterprise applications using Micro Focus COBOL, CICS, and JCL Design, code, test, and debug COBOL programs based on business requirements Work extensively with ISAM file systems for data storage, retrieval, and optimization Analyze existing systems and propose performance improvements and modernization strategies Troubleshoot application issues and provide timely resolution in production and non-production environments Automation & RPA Build and maintain automation workflows using Python and R Analyze business processes and identify automation opportunities Integrate RPA solutions with APIs, databases, and third-party systems Perform data extraction, transformation, and analysis using Python/R Develop reusable components and frameworks for automation Collaboration & Documentation Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Business Analysts, QA, and Infrastructure Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to development standards and best practices Create and maintain technical documentation for programs, enhancements, and processes Support system integration efforts and interfacing with external systems Work within Agile/Scrum environments as needed Provide knowledge transfer and mentoring to junior developers when required Required Skills: Strong hands-on experience with Micro Focus COBOL, CICS, and JCL Solid understanding of ISAM file systems Proficiency in Python and/or R for automation and data processing Experience with RPA tools/solutions and API integration Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills Good written and verbal communication for documentation and cross-team collaboration
