Full-Stack Developer / API Integration Engineer – Construction Operations Platform Fortitude Builders & Restoration is building a custom internal construction operations platform rather than purchasing an expensive off-the-shelf system such as Buildertrend or Procore. We already have a functioning Fortitude Integration Hub that manages lead intake, team roles, project milestones, Google Drive/Calendar connections, QuickBooks integration, email/SMS workflows, webhooks, notifications, and other operational functions. We are looking for an experienced Full-Stack Developer / API Integration Engineer to work collaboratively with our existing developer and operations/finance team to expand this platform into a much more comprehensive construction management system. This is not a project starting from zero. You will be joining an existing working application and helping us design, integrate, automate, and scale it. WHAT WE WANT TO BUILD Our goal is to create an affordable internal alternative to expensive construction management software that can eventually manage the entire lifecycle: Lead → Inspection → Design → Estimating → Bidding → Contract → Procurement → Scheduling → Construction → Job Costing → Change Orders → Billing → Completion We operate both insurance restoration projects and residential remodeling projects, including roofing, kitchens, bathrooms, decks, siding, gutters and related trades. PROJECT MANAGEMENT & SCHEDULING We want centralized project management that allows our team to manage: • Projects, tasks and subtasks • Project milestones/gates • Responsible team members • Start dates and deadlines • Dependencies • Construction schedules • Subcontractor schedules • Material delivery dates • Inspections • Customer appointments • Calendar synchronization • Overdue tasks and alerts • Project dashboards • Automated reminders Google Calendar and our existing Fortitude Hub should work together rather than creating duplicate systems. ESTIMATING, TAKEOFF & RFQ SYSTEM We also want to develop an estimating/procurement workflow. Our estimators should eventually be able to: • Create or upload takeoffs • Build scopes of work • Organize labor and material quantities • Maintain cost databases • Create preliminary project budgets • Upload drawings, specifications and supporting documents • Select subcontractors/vendors by trade • Automatically generate Requests for Bid / RFQs • Email bid packages to selected subcontractors and suppliers • Track who received/opened/responded • Receive bids • Compare bids side-by-side • Select awarded vendors/subcontractors • Push approved costs into the project budget/job-costing system We are not expecting one developer to understand construction estimating from day one. Our construction, estimating and finance team will define the business logic. We need someone capable of translating those requirements into reliable software. JOB COSTING & QUICKBOOKS QuickBooks Online is already part of our environment. We want to eventually track: Budget Committed Costs Purchase Orders Subcontracts Change Orders Labor Materials Invoices Payments Actual Cost Projected Cost Gross Profit Gross Margin We want to avoid duplicate entry wherever practical. Experience with the QuickBooks Online API, OAuth and webhooks is highly valuable. SUBCONTRACTOR / VENDOR PORTAL One of our highest-priority future features is a mobile-friendly subcontractor portal. Many members of our field workforce are Spanish-speaking, so the portal should support English and Spanish. Subcontractors should eventually be able to securely access only the projects assigned to them and: • View scopes of work • View plans and drawings • View schedules • Accept/confirm assignments • Receive project updates • Communicate with project management • Submit bids • Upload invoices • View payment status • Upload progress photos/videos • Upload insurance/compliance documents • Receive change orders • Confirm completion • Receive notifications We are also interested in exploring GPS/geolocation-based jobsite check-in/check-out, with appropriate user permissions and consent, to document when authorized field personnel arrive and leave assigned jobsites. The system needs role-based permissions so subcontractors only see information appropriate to them. CUSTOMER PORTAL A future phase may include a private homeowner portal integrated into our website. Customers could potentially see: • Project status • Current milestone • Upcoming schedule • Approved selections • Project photos • Documents • Change orders • Payment information • Important updates • Messages We would like milestone changes to potentially trigger appropriate email and/or SMS notifications. INTEGRATIONS Current or planned integrations may include: • Existing Fortitude Integration Hub • QuickBooks Online • Google Workspace • Google Drive • Google Calendar • Gmail/email services • CompanyCam • Twilio or other SMS services • Google Sheets where appropriate • Website/customer portal • REST APIs • Webhooks • OAuth We do not want to force Google Sheets to become the database if that is architecturally inappropriate. We want the developer to help our team determine where Sheets is useful as an operational interface/reporting layer and where a proper relational database/API should remain the system of record. WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR Strong candidates should have significant experience with several of the following: • Full-stack web application development • REST APIs • API integrations • Webhooks • OAuth 2.0 • JavaScript / TypeScript • Node.js and/or Python • SQL and relational database architecture • PostgreSQL or similar • Google APIs • QuickBooks Online API • Responsive/mobile-first applications • Role-based access control • Authentication/security • File uploads/storage • Background jobs/queues • Email/SMS integrations • Git/GitHub • Existing codebase debugging and integration Construction software, field-service software, CRM, ERP, project management or accounting-system experience is a major plus. Spanish-language application experience is also valuable, but fluency in Spanish is not required. HOW WE WANT TO START We intend to begin with a small paid technical trial of approximately 15–25 hours. During the initial phase, we would like the selected developer to: 1. Review the existing Fortitude Hub architecture and codebase. 2. Meet with our existing developer and key team members. 3. Review our proposed construction workflow. 4. Identify architectural risks or unnecessary duplication. 5. Recommend how the Hub, database, Google Workspace and external APIs should interact. 6. Help establish the development roadmap. 7. Complete at least one clearly defined working integration or module. If the relationship is successful, this could develop into a substantial ongoing role. IMPORTANT We are not looking for someone who simply says yes to every feature request. We want an experienced developer who will tell us when an idea is: • unnecessarily complicated • insecure • expensive to maintain • better handled by an existing API • better built differently • likely to create duplicate data or synchronization problems Our objective is to build a lean, reliable and scalable system, not an unnecessarily complicated one. WHEN APPLYING, PLEASE ANSWER Please include: 1. An example of a business operations platform, CRM, ERP, project-management system or portal you personally developed. 2. An example of an API integration you personally implemented involving OAuth and/or webhooks. 3. Your experience with QuickBooks Online, Google APIs, CompanyCam, Twilio or similar platforms. 4. Your preferred backend/database architecture for a system like this and why. 5. How you would approach synchronizing an existing application with QuickBooks, Google Calendar and other external systems without creating duplicate or conflicting records. 6. Whether you are comfortable joining an existing codebase and collaborating with another developer rather than rebuilding everything yourself. 7. Your availability during the next 30 days. Please begin your proposal with the words “FORTITUDE HUB” so we know you read the complete description.
