Freelance Website Developer & Maintenance Specialist ChatterBox Creative | Remote | Contract / Part-Time ChatterBox Creative is looking for a dependable website professional to help manage, maintain, and troubleshoot our clients’ websites. We need someone who can handle ongoing technical care, resolve issues, and help keep websites current, secure, and functioning properly. This is an ongoing freelance opportunity with hours based on client needs. We’re looking for a long-term partner who communicates clearly, takes initiative, and follows through. What You’ll Do Maintain client websites, primarily WordPress, with occasional work in Wix, Webflow, or other platforms. Manage WordPress core, plugin, theme, and PHP updates, checking compatibility and testing functionality. Troubleshoot website outages, database connection errors, plugin conflicts, broken pages, and performance issues. Set up and monitor backups, verify recovery options, and restore websites when needed. Monitor security alerts and address vulnerabilities, malware, and unauthorized changes. Manage hosting configurations, SSL certificates, domains, DNS records, and website migrations. Coordinate with hosting providers and other vendors to resolve technical issues. Make content updates and minor design or functionality improvements. Test forms, appointment links, mobile layouts, and other important website features. Maintain clear records of access, configurations, renewals, maintenance, and completed work. Flag outdated websites and recommend practical options for repair, improvement, or rebuilding. What We’re Looking For Demonstrated experience maintaining and troubleshooting business websites. Strong WordPress skills, including PHP, MySQL databases, HTML, CSS, and working knowledge of JavaScript. Experience with hosting control panels, SFTP/SSH, phpMyAdmin, backups, and staging environments. Understanding of DNS and domain management, including how website changes can affect business email. Experience investigating compromised websites and improving website security. A careful approach to changes, including backups, testing, and a recovery plan. Ability to explain technical issues in plain language and provide realistic estimates. Reliable communication, attention to detail, and availability for occasional urgent issues. Willingness to work behind the scenes as part of the ChatterBox Creative team and protect confidential client information. Helpful Experience Supporting multiple websites for an agency or freelance client roster. Working with Liquid Web, GoDaddy, and other hosting and domain providers. Maintaining older websites with compatibility challenges. Website accessibility, technical SEO, and speed optimization. Building or redesigning websites when maintenance is no longer the best solution. Working Arrangement This is a remote, independent contractor role with recurring maintenance work and additional projects as needed.
