Backend + AI engineer

Primarily Mobile app. Minor website. You'd own the server side. That's our Node backend and our Python AI service, which talk to each other constantly. All subject to change as company evolves. Languages: TypeScript/JavaScript and Python. You need both. Most of the day-to-day is TypeScript. Backend: Node.js, Express, Prisma, PostgreSQL, Redis, Socket.io. Our database has multiple models and deliberate separation of health data from account identity, so you'd be designing around UUIDs . AI side: Python 3.11 and FastAPI. Multi-agent orchestration. We run agents through PydanticAI with typed schemas, parallel dispatch, model routing, and fallback between providers, etc. Claude, Gemini through Google Vertex AI, and others. Safety guardrails. Able to independently and accurately build specs from senior AI, understand AI with enough comfort for fix management, identifying gaps and areas for improvement, independent work. GCP (Cloud Run, Cloud SQL), background job scheduling, GitHub Actions. Comfortable leveraging and managing agents for enhancing dev work, NOT replacing. Must thrive in fast paced, ambiguous environment. Takes initiatives, thoroughly communicates and proactively collaborates. Humble team player who is eager to learn anything and make the product the best possible. Ideal candidate is someone looking for long term placement at startup who can grow with the company and ownership as role expands. We start with one month trial to ensure mutual fit, then 90 day review before longer term placement.
