Custom WordPress Weather Plugin Developer (WeatherAPI + Elementor Pro)

Snowstorms.ca Weather Platform Project Phase: Phase 1 Platform: WordPress + Elementor Pro Weather Provider: WeatherAPI.com Starter Plan (3 Million API Calls / Month) 1. Project Overview I'm building Snowstorms.ca, a Canadian weather website focused on live weather, weather education, historical weather events, and winter weather. The website already contains approximately 50 weather articles. The next phase is to build the live weather platform. My goal is to build the foundation of a professional weather website similar to The Weather Network or Weather.com, but designed specifically for WordPress and Elementor Pro. For Phase 1, I will be using the WeatherAPI.com Starter Plan (3 million API calls/month). The initial launch will support the following provinces in Canada: Ontario Alberta Manitoba The plugin should be built so additional provinces can easily be added later. 2. Project Goals The goal is to build a custom WordPress plugin that: Connects to WeatherAPI.com Imports municipalities Bulk creates municipality weather pages Creates province hub pages Allows me to build the page layouts using Elementor Provides reusable weather shortcodes that automatically display the correct weather for each location I am not looking for a page designer. I will design the pages myself using Elementor Pro. I need a developer to build the weather engine that powers the website. Elementor Templates I will create the following templates in Elementor: 1. Weather Hub /weather/ 2. Province Hub Example: /weather/ontario/ /weather/alberta/ /weather/manitoba/ There should be one reusable province template that automatically works for every province. 3. Municipality Weather Pages Example: /weather/ontario/toronto/ /weather/alberta/calgary/ /weather/manitoba/winnipeg/ There should be one reusable municipality template that automatically works for every municipality. The developer does not need to design these templates. The developer only needs to ensure the weather data loads dynamically. Bulk Page Creation I will provide a spreadsheet containing every municipality. The developer must bulk create: Municipality pages Province pages Store latitude/longitude Store province Store timezone Create the proper URL structure I should not have to manually create hundreds of municipality pages. Weather Shortcodes The plugin should provide Elementor-compatible shortcodes. I simply want to drag a Shortcode widget into Elementor and paste the shortcode. Example: [weather_temperature] If I place this shortcode inside the Toronto page template it should automatically display Toronto's temperature. If I place the exact same shortcode inside the Calgary page template it should automatically display Calgary's temperature. I should never need to manually change the city inside the shortcode for municipality pages. The hourly forecast should display up to 24 hours. Each hour should display: Time Weather Icon Temperature Chance of Precipitation Optionally: Wind Snow Rain The hourly forecast should scroll horizontally on mobile. Seven Day Forecast Create one seven-day forecast component. Each day should display: Day Icon Condition High Low Chance of Precipitation Optionally: Rain Snow Wind The 7 day forecast should scroll horizontally on mobile. Municipality Search Create a municipality search component that: Searches supported municipalities Uses autocomplete Redirects users to the correct municipality weather page Homepage Weather The homepage should detect a visitor's approximate location using IP lookup. Visitors should also be able to search for another municipality. Caching Performance is extremely important. A municipality page may contain many weather shortcodes. For example: Temperature Condition Wind Humidity Forecast Alerts These must all use one cached WeatherAPI response. Adding more shortcodes must not create more API requests. WordPress Administration The plugin should allow me to: Enter my WeatherAPI key Import municipalities Edit municipalities Add new municipalities Manage provinces Clear cache Configure cache duration Everything should be manageable from the WordPress dashboard. Future Expansion The plugin should be built so additional provinces can easily be imported later. I do not want the plugin rebuilt every time I add another province.
