Project Overview
We are looking for an experienced WordPress/Divi developer with Google Business Profile API experience to build an automated customer review system for an existing Testimonials page on our business website.
Website platform: WordPress
Web hosting: WP Engine
Page builder: Divi Builder
Review source: (3) separate Google Business Profile listings located in (3) different Texas cities.
This is an existing, active worldwide business website. We are NOT looking for a website redesign or a generic one-size-fits-all third-party review widget or plug-in.
The primary goals are to eliminate our current manual review-posting process while also making the actual customer review text crawlable and readable by Google, Bing, search-engine crawlers, and AI bots.
______________________________________________
The Current Problem
We currently have several hundred 5-star customer reviews spread across three different GPB listings in three different Texas cities.
Our Testimonials page currently displays many of these reviews as screenshots, which we want to delete once this is implemented.
Every time we receive a new 5-star Google review, someone has to:
1. Log into one of the three Google Business Profiles.
2. Find the new review.
3. Take a screenshot of the review.
4. Log in to WordPress.
5. Find and open the Divi Testimonials Page.
6. Upload the screenshot.
7. Add it to the page.
8. Save/update the page.
This is extremely inefficient.
There is also a major SEO/AI problem with this system:
The customer review text is contained inside images instead of actual website text.
Search engines and AI crawlers therefore do not receive the review content as normal crawlable page text. I need to completely automate this process for our Google reviews.
______________________________________________
What We Want Built
I want a system that connects our WordPress/Divi website to our 3 Google Business Profile listings and automatically imports only our 5-star Google reviews.
The system should use an authorized Google Business Profile API integration or another Google-approved method.
We do NOT want Google reviews scraped from Google search results, Google Maps, or Google Business Profile pages.
The system should automatically check our three Google Business Profile locations for new reviews once every 24 hours.
When a new Google review is found:
If the review is 5 stars: The systems import’s and display it's on our Testimonials page.
If the review is 1, 2, 3, or 4 stars: Do NOT import or display it on our Testimonials page.
______________________________________________
Three Google Business Profile Locations
We currently operate 3 different Google Business Profile listings in 3 different Texas cities.
The finished system must connect to and retrieve reviews from all three locations.
Reviews from all three Google Business Profiles should be combined into one review database/feed on our existing Testimonials/Reviews page.
The developer must ensure that reviews from one location cannot accidentally be imported multiple times.
______________________________________________
Automatic 24-Hour Review Check
The system must automatically check our three GMP listings for new reviews once every 24 hours.
We should NOT have to:
• Log into WordPress
• Log into Google
• Push an import button
• Manually synchronize reviews
• Take screenshots
• Copy and paste review text
• Edit the Divi page every time we receive a review
Once the system is configured, new qualifying reviews should be automatically imported.
The developer should use an appropriate WordPress scheduled task, cron job, or other reliable automated method.
The system should also properly handle Google API authentication/token renewal so that it does not require us to continually reconnect the account.
______________________________________________
ONLY 5-Star Reviews Should Be Displayed
This is an absolute requirement.
The Testimonials page should display ONLY reviews with a 5-star rating.
Reviews with ratings of:
1 star
2 stars
3 stars
4 stars
should NOT appear on the Testimonials page.
The filtering should occur automatically.
______________________________________________
Review Information to Import
For every qualifying 5-star Google review, I want the system to capture and store the available information needed to display the review properly, including:
• Reviewer/customer name
• 5-star rating
• Actual written review text
• Date of review
• Google Business Profile location/source
• Google attribution where required
• Unique Google review ID or equivalent unique identifier
• Original review/source information when available
The unique review identifier should be stored so that the same review cannot be imported repeatedly during each 24-hour synchronization.
______________________________________________
Reviews Must Be Stored in WordPress
This requirement is extremely important.
We do NOT simply want a temporary external feed that disappears if an API request fails.
Imported reviews should be stored in the WordPress database in an appropriate structured format.
This could be implemented through a custom post type, custom database structure, or another technically appropriate WordPress solution.
The developer should explain the approach before implementing it.
Once a review has been successfully imported, WordPress should have a local structured record of that review.
______________________________________________
Review Text MUST Be 100% Crawlable
This is one of the most important requirements of the entire project.
The actual customer review text must appear on the Testimonials page as real crawlable website text/HTML.
The solution CANNOT simply display the reviews as:
• Screenshots
• Images
• An iframe containing Google
• JavaScript-only content that is unavailable in the initial/server-rendered page content
• A third-party widget whose review content exists only on another company's server
We specifically need the review text available to search-engine and AI crawlers.
This includes, where technically possible:
• Googlebot
• Bingbot
• OpenAI/ChatGPT crawlers
• Google/Gemini
• Claude
• Grok
• Perplexity
• Co-pilot
• DeepSeek
• Other legitimate search-engine and AI crawlers
The developer must demonstrate that the actual review text is present in crawlable page HTML/content after the project is completed.
Simply showing us that the reviews visually appear in a web browser is NOT sufficient.
______________________________________________
Customer Review Sorting and Filtering
Visitors to the Testimonials page need an easy way to sort/filter the reviews.
At a minimum, we need:
Newest to Oldest
The default display should be:
Newest reviews first
Oldest to Newest
The sorting/filtering control should be simple, fast, mobile-friendly, and visually consistent with the existing website.
Changing the sort order should NOT require loading a completely different website or sending the visitor to Google.
And have a search box where they can search a keyword, name, place, or keyword phrase on the reviews page.
______________________________________________
Pagination / Large Number of Reviews
We already have several hundred 5-star reviews, and that number will continue growing.
We do NOT want hundreds or eventually thousands of reviews dumped onto one enormous page if that creates performance problems.
The developer should implement an SEO-friendly method of handling a large review database.
This would include:
• Pagination ← Previous 1 2 3 4 5 … 12 Next →
• A reasonable number of reviews per page (25 per page)
The important requirement is that older reviews should remain accessible to users and crawlers.
The developer needs to implement real crawlable pagination URLs, rather than a JavaScript-only “Next” button that swaps reviews without creating a crawlable URL.
Something conceptually like:
/testimonials/
/testimonials/page/2/
/testimonials/page/3/
/testimonials/page/4/
Each page should return 25 reviews in server-rendered HTML when requested directly.
That way Google/AI crawlers can potentially follow:
Testimonials → Page 2 → Page 3 → Page 4 → etc.
and discover the older reviews too.
I would also make the review text, reviewer name, star rating, review date, and Google location/source actual HTML text—not something injected only after JavaScript runs.
Pagination must be server-side and crawlable.
Each paginated Testimonials page must have its own crawlable URL and return its review content in the initial HTML without requiring JavaScript interaction.
Pagination links must use normal crawlable links so search-engine and AI crawlers can discover older reviews.
______________________________________________
Existing Historical Google Reviews
This project is NOT only for future reviews.
We need the initial setup to import all our existing qualifying 5-star Google reviews from all 3 Google Business Profile locations by Google's authorized API.
After the initial import is complete, the automatic 24-hour synchronization should take over.
The system should recognize previously imported reviews and never create duplicate reviews.
______________________________________________
WordPress Admin Controls
We want a simple WordPress admin area for managing the imported reviews.
At a minimum, we should be able to:
• View imported reviews
• See which Google location produced the review
• See the rating
• See the review date
• See when it was imported
• Manually hide/unpublish a review if necessary
• Restore/publish a review if necessary
We do NOT want to edit the Divi Testimonials page every time we need to manage an individual review.
The review database should be managed separately from the page layout.
______________________________________________
Existing Testimonials Page
This project is for our existing Testimonials/Reviews page.
The developer should integrate the new review system into the existing WordPress/Divi website.
We do NOT want the rest of the website redesigned or changed.
The new review display should visually fit the existing sites:
• Fonts
• Colors
• Widths
• Spacing
• Mobile design
• Desktop design
• Overall branding
We are open to improvements to the Testimonials page itself if necessary to display textual reviews properly, but any design changes must be approved before implementation.
______________________________________________
Mobile and Desktop
The completed system must work correctly on:
Desktop computers
Tablets
Mobile phones
Android and Apple
PC and Mac’s
The review cards/text and sorting controls must be responsive. Please test the completed work at multiple different screen sizes.
______________________________________________
Performance
Page speed matters.
We do NOT want a review system that makes hundreds of live Google API requests every time someone visits the Testimonials page.
Our preference is:
Google Business Profile API → scheduled 24-hour import → WordPress database → Testimonials page
rather than:
Website visitor → live Google API request → wait for reviews
Once imported, reviews should be served efficiently from WordPress.
______________________________________________
API and Security Requirements
The Google API credentials, OAuth tokens, and other authentication information must be stored securely.
Do NOT expose API credentials in publicly accessible:
• HTML
• JavaScript
• Page source
• Divi modules
• Browser-side code
Any Google Business Profile API integration should follow Google's current authentication and API requirements.
______________________________________________
DO NOT Scrape Google
We specifically do NOT want a fragile Google scraping solution.
Do not build something that scrapes Google Maps or Google's website every 24 hours.
We want an authorized API-based solution that is maintainable and does not depend on Google's public webpage HTML remaining unchanged.
________________________________________
Protect the Existing Website
This is a live business website.
The developer must make a backup before making ANY changes.
Do NOT make any unnecessary global changes to:
• Divi
• JavaScript
• CSS
• Existing forms
• Order pages
• Contact forms
• Other plugins
• Other website pages
The review project should be isolated as much as reasonably possible from unrelated website functionality.
We have previously had a developer make what should have been a small change- a drop-down menu change on the Contact Us page that unexpectedly broke all eight of our order form pages on the website for 24 hours, and we lost a bunch of orders.
We cannot have that happen again.
______________________________________________
Testing Before Completion
Before the project is considered complete, the developer must test and demonstrate:
1. All 3 Google Business Profile locations are connected.
2. Existing 5-star reviews have been imported.
3. Reviews below 5 stars are excluded from the public Testimonials page.
4. Duplicate reviews are prevented.
5. New reviews can be automatically detected/imported.
6. The automatic synchronization runs every 24 hours.
7. Reviews are stored in WordPress.
8. Review text appears as real crawlable HTML/content.
9. Newest-to-oldest sorting works correctly.
10. Pagination/large-review handling works correctly.
11. Desktop display works correctly.
12. Mobile display works correctly.
13. Existing website functionality has not been broken.
14. Google API credentials are not publicly exposed.
We will independently check the completed page for crawlability using multiple AI’s we have paid subscriptions to.
______________________________________________
Definition of Done
This project is complete when:
All 3 of our Google Business Profile locations are connected to WordPress, existing 5-star reviews are imported without duplicates, new 5-star reviews are automatically checked for and imported every 24 hours, the reviews are stored in WordPress, customers can view them newest-to-oldest, and the actual customer review text is crawlable by search engines and AI crawlers rather than being contained in screenshots, images, iframes, or inaccessible JavaScript.
The system must continue working automatically without requiring us to manually add every new Google review.

Questions You MUST Answer When Applying
Please answer these eight questions in your proposal:
1. Have you previously connected the Google Business Profile API to WordPress websites?
2. Have you previously imported reviews from multiple Google Business Profile locations?
3. Explain how you would retrieve reviews from all 3 of our Google Business Profile locations.
4. How will you automatically check for new reviews every 24 hours?
5. How will you prevent duplicate reviews?
6. Where will the imported reviews be stored in WordPress?
7. How will you ensure the actual review text is crawlable by Google and all AI crawlers rather than being JavaScript-only content?
8. How will you handle several hundred existing reviews without making the Testimonials page extremely slow?
Please do not send a generic WordPress proposal.
If you do not answer the questions above, we will assume you did not read the project requirements.
