Backend Integration Engineer (Python/AWS/REST/GraphQL)

NO AGENCIES. INDEPENDENT FREELANCERS ONLY. READ THIS FIRST: This is a generalist seat on a specialist team. You will switch between API integration work, AWS deployment support, and data tasks within the same sprint. If you only want to work in one narrow lane, do not apply. We will ask for specific proof that you have shipped across multiple workstreams. You will join as the pod's flex engineer under a lead architect, picking up integration, platform or MCP tasks wherever the load is heaviest. Full-time, long-term engagement. Key Responsibilities: • Build and maintain REST and GraphQL integrations with SaaS and enterprise platforms • Implement OAuth flows, webhook processing and error handling • Support deployment, monitoring and troubleshooting of Python services in AWS • Handle SQL and data transformation work supporting integrations • Contribute to shared integration services and frameworks • Pick up integration, platform or MCP tasks across the pod as priorities shift • Cover for teammates during vacations and cutover crunches Requirements: • 5+ years of backend engineering with strong Python (will be tested during screening) • REST and GraphQL API integration experience, including OAuth, webhooks and error handling • AWS fundamentals: deploying and operating containerized services • Docker and CI/CD familiarity • Solid SQL • Comfortable switching contexts across several workstreams in a sprint • Able to work within an architect's established standards • Fluent English • Minimum 4 hours daily overlap with US Eastern time, full-time availability Nice to Have: • Shopify or other ecommerce platform APIs • BigQuery • Interest in MCP and AI agent tooling • Experience joining an unfamiliar codebase and shipping in the first week
