Terraform setup has gotten away from us. It worked fine when one person owned it, but over the last year a few people made changes directly in the AWS console when things were urgent, and now the state file doesn't match what's actually running.
Right now if we run `terraform plan` it wants to destroy or recreate a bunch of stuff that's clearly already there and working, so we're basically scared to run apply at all. State is currently local on one person's machine (I know, I know). We want it moved to S3 with proper locking so the whole team can work without stepping on each other.
What we're looking for:
- Get the state reconciled so plan is clean and we can trust apply again
- Move state to S3 with locking
- Import the manually-created resources so everything is actually managed
- A short writeup so we understand what you changed and how to not break it again
Not looking for a full rebuild, just want to stop being afraid of our own infrastructure. Please tell us how you'd approach this and roughly how long it might take. Budget is flexible for the right person.
