We are Bebida, a sports and pop-culture media company in New York. We are building Play Bebida
(playbebida.com), a website full of small games. The first game, Pick 5, is live and has real
players. We are adding many more games. We need someone to own the platform under all of them.
What you will do
- Keep the site up and healthy. Set up and watch our monitoring (Sentry, uptime checks) and
make sure alerts land in our Discord.
- Own the database and the data. We run Postgres (Neon) and Redis (Upstash) on Google Cloud
Run. You set up daily backups, keep the schema clean as new games are added, and keep the
live numbers honest (for example, removing test users from the real user count).
- Build the shared parts every game uses: sign in with Google and Apple, player profiles, the
cross-game scoreboard, the feedback box.
- Build and run data pipelines. Our sports games need player and team data that changes every
week. You write the jobs that pull it in, check it, and fix the gaps.
- Work from a Trello board in sprints. Our lead developer (Mac) writes the tasks. You pick up
the next one, build it, open a pull request.
- Post a short status update in our Discord every work day. 2-3 lines is enough.
What we need from you
- 2+ years of backend work. Postgres is a must. Redis is a plus.
- You have deployed and kept a real site running. Docker and a cloud platform (Google Cloud,
AWS, or similar) are normal for you.
- You use AI coding tools every day (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar). This is not
optional. We build fast because we use these tools well.
- You are careful. You test before you ship. You do not break the live site.
- Git and pull requests are normal for you.
- Good written English. Our team talks in Discord, in writing.
- You work hard and you like finishing things. We care about this more than your resume.
Nice to have
- Node.js or Python for scripts and data jobs.
- You have set up Sentry, PostHog, or uptime monitoring before.
- You know sports (NFL, NBA, MLB). Our data is about players and teams.
How to apply
Reply with:
1. A link to one thing you built and ran in production. Tell us what broke once and how you fixed it.
2. Which AI coding tools you use and one sentence on how.
3. Your time zone and the hours you work that overlap with New York (9am-6pm ET).
4. Put the word "UPTIME" at the top of your message so we know you read this.
Shortlisted people get a paid test task (2-4 hours, paid whether we hire you or not): write a
small script that pulls a public sports roster, stores it in Postgres, and reports what changed
since the last run.
