Backend Engineer for AI Applications, Agents & Automation

We’re looking for an experienced AI and backend developer to build reliable web applications, AI-powered features, and business automation workflows. You’ll work across backend development, LLM integrations, AI agents, APIs, databases, and third-party platforms. This is a hands-on development role for someone who can turn business requirements into maintainable, production-ready software. This is not a prompt-writing-only role. You should have strong software engineering fundamentals and practical experience shipping AI features in real applications. What you’ll work on • Build and maintain web applications, backend services, and APIs. • Integrate LLMs such as GPT and Claude into new and existing applications. • Build AI agents that can use tools, complete multi-step tasks, and automate workflows. • Design workflows involving tool calling, memory, context management, and structured outputs. • Create MCP integrations that connect AI agents with external applications and services. • Integrate databases, APIs, SaaS platforms, and other third-party systems. • Build RAG, semantic search, or document-processing workflows when required. • Improve the performance, security, and reliability of existing systems. • Test and evaluate AI features, including edge cases and model failures. • Troubleshoot bugs and maintain production applications. • Collaborate with our team to plan, build, test, and release new features. Required experience • At least 4 years of professional software or backend development experience. • Strong programming skills in Python or Java. • Experience building production web applications, backend APIs, and integrations. • Hands-on experience integrating LLMs into real applications. • Experience building AI agents, automation systems, or tool-calling workflows. • Familiarity with MCP or similar methods for connecting AI systems to external tools. • Strong understanding of REST APIs, databases, authentication, and software architecture. • Experience with prompt design, structured outputs, context management, and LLM reliability. • Ability to write clean, testable, and maintainable code. • Strong communication and independent problem-solving skills. Nice to have • Experience with React, Next.js, or another modern frontend framework. • Experience with RAG, embeddings, vector databases, or semantic search. • Familiarity with LangChain, LangGraph, Claude Code, or similar AI development tools. • Experience with AWS or another cloud platform. • Experience integrating business platforms such as CRMs, communication tools, or project-management systems. • Experience with background jobs, queues, webhooks, and event-driven systems. • Familiarity with Docker and CI/CD workflows. Work details • Fully remote contract position. • Full-time commitment of approximately 40 hours per week. • Applicants must be based in Pakistan, India, or Bangladesh. • You must be available for meaningful daily overlap with U.S. Central Time. • This is intended to be an ongoing engagement for the right developer.
