Seeking an experienced Geospatial Web/UI Developer to build interactive mapping for our cloud based websites. This project is focused on interactive map interfaces — turning model outputs, radar, and satellite data into fast, responsive, and visually clear web maps.
What you'll do:
Build interactive map front ends for weather visualization using MapLibre, Mapbox GL, Leaflet, OpenLayers, or similar.
Develop multi-layer map interfaces with timestep animation, layer toggles, and regional zoom.
Render complex meteorological datasets efficiently in the browser using WebGL, Canvas, or similar techniques.
Optimize map performance for large datasets and real-time data updates.
Build responsive, accessible UI components around the map — controls, legends, timelines, and data panels.
Work with the backend team to consume APIs and tile services.
Ensure the front end is clean, maintainable, and documented.
Required skills:
Strong JavaScript/TypeScript and modern front-end frameworks — React, Next.js, Vue, or similar.
Experience building interactive map front ends with MapLibre, Mapbox GL JS, Leaflet, OpenLayers, or similar.
Experience with WebGL, Canvas, or Three.js for high-performance geospatial visualization.
Experience with geospatial data formats — GeoJSON, GRIB2, netCDF, GIS, raster processing (GDAL, rasterio, xarray, pygrib, or equivalent), vector tiles, raster tiles, and spatial data handling.
Experience with map animations, time-series layers, and real-time data rendering.
CSS and responsive design — able to build clean, modern UI around complex data.
AWS experience — S3, CloudFront, and related services.
Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
