We are seeking an experienced embedded systems and BLE research engineer to help identify and document off-the-shelf Bluetooth Low Energy optical heart rate sensor modules or pods that support open, unencrypted data broadcasting.
Project Scope:
We are developing a local microcontroller integration (ESP32 / M5StickC) that communicates directly with wearable sensor pods. We need an engineer to research, analyze, and compile a technical comparison report of existing market-available optical sensor pods (such as Nordic-based or similar wearable modules) to determine:
Which devices natively support the standard Bluetooth SIG Heart Rate Service (UUID 0x180D).
Which devices expose raw RR-interval (HRV) data payloads in their BLE broadcast packets without requiring a proprietary companion app or cloud handshake.
Technical feasibility notes on integrating these modules into a custom local BLE client architecture.
Deliverables:
A structured technical report/matrix comparing 3 to 5 candidate sensor modules based on their BLE protocol openness, SDK availability, and data packet structures.
Recommendations for the best component path forward for local hardware prototyping.
Required Skills:
Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) / GATT architecture
Embedded Systems & Firmware Analysis
IoT Device Integration & Component Research
