Do you love building new pages, solving website problems, and checking things off your to-do list? Do you enjoy working with a collaborative team of developers, designers, project managers, researchers, and strategists? At Next Step, we’re looking for a Junior Developer to provide ongoing development and technical support across a variety of client websites. You’ll work closely with our Senior Developer and broader client team, helping take ownership of day-to-day website updates, support tickets, QA, and smaller development projects. This is a part-time contract role averaging approximately 5–10 hours per week. While the overall schedule is flexible, regular weekday availability and responsiveness are important. A key part of the role is monitoring our support ticketing platform and helping us respond promptly when clients have time-sensitive website needs. What you'll do Monitor our Support Ticketing platform and respond to client website requests in a timely manner Handle routine website updates, troubleshooting, and maintenance Work closely with our Senior Developer, designers, and Client Success team to ensure client needs and deadlines are met Communicate proactively about ticket status, timing, questions, or issues that need to be escalated Thoroughly test and QA new pages, updates, and website features Typical projects may include: Adding new webpages to client websites Updating content and functionality on existing websites Creating custom PHP templates Building new website functionality, such as blogs or Careers sections Installing, configuring, and testing WordPress plugins Supporting technical updates that help maintain strong SEO / AEO performance Building newsletters using platforms such as Mailchimp Testing and troubleshooting website issues across devices and browsers You should have Experience with HTML, CSS, PHP, and JavaScript Experience working with WordPress CMS Familiarity with Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) and Custom Post Types within WordPress Familiarity with Bootstrap or a similar grid framework Familiarity with WP Builders such as Divi, Elementor, etc. Knowledge of responsive development and styling Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage multiple requests, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines Ability to work independently while knowing when to ask questions or escalate an issue Reliable weekday availability to regularly check incoming support requests and respond promptly when needed Familiarity with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Nice to have Experience building custom email newsletter templates Experience with Figma, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator Familiarity with UI design, page layout, typography, and branding Familiarity with WPEngine (prod, staging, backups, caching) Education & experience Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or currently pursuing a relevant degree, preferred 1+ year of front-end development experience preferred Equivalent hands-on development experience is welcome Schedule: Monday–Friday, flexible hours with regular weekday availability for client support Work Location: Remote
