Job Title: Mechatronics Engineer & Prototype Builder for Confidential B2B Hardware Project
Job Description:
We are an early-stage hardware startup looking for a hands-on Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineer to build the first functional prototypes of a patent-pending, surface-mounted motorized device.
The Master Technical Specifications and user workflows are fully mapped out, and we are currently in the non-provisional patent phase. We need a talented prototyper to translate our specs into manufacturing-ready CAD files, source the internal components, and physically build the beta units.
Because this is a patent-pending commercial device, you will be required to sign a Mutual Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) before we reveal the name of the product, its exact application, and the full specification sheet.
What We Need You to Do:
Mechanical CAD & Enclosure Design: Design a sleek, compact plastic enclosure (approx. 3.5" x 6.5" x 2.25").
Collaborative Mechanical Engineering: The device requires a specialized mounting system with a quick-release feature for easy maintenance. It also requires a mechanism to apply a constant, adjustable mechanical pressure (~4 lbs) to an internal drive component. We have basic concepts in mind, but we are looking for an engineer who will pitch the most reliable, cost-effective mechanical solution (e.g., spring-loaded, cam-lever, etc.).
Electronics & Motor Integration: Source a compact Brushless DC (BLDC) motor with appropriate gearing. Integrate a rechargeable lithium-ion battery system, USB-C pass-through charging, and internal hardware toggle switches for operational modes.
Firmware & Control: Program basic control logic to communicate with a simple wireless RF/Bluetooth remote. Include essential safety logic (overcurrent/obstruction detection for auto-shutoff).
Physical Prototyping: 3D print the enclosure, assemble the electronics, and ship 5 to 10 fully functional physical prototypes to us for real-world testing.
Required Deliverables:
Native CAD files (.STEP/.STL) optimized for future injection molding.
Complete Bill of Materials (BOM) for off-the-shelf electronic and hardware components.
Uncompiled firmware source code.
5 to 10 fully assembled, working physical prototypes shipped to our location in the US.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
You don't just draw what you're told—you actively solve mechanical problems and suggest better ways to manufacture things.
Proven experience taking electromechanical consumer/commercial hardware from concept sketch to a functional, 3D-printed prototype.
Strong background in mechatronics (combining enclosures with motors, batteries, and simple PCBs).
Clear communicator who can provide regular video updates and milestone check-ins.
To Apply:
Please reply with a brief overview of your experience designing motorized products. Include 2 or 3 portfolio examples of physical prototypes you have successfully engineered. Let us know your general approach to solving mechanical tension/pressure problems, and confirm your willingness to sign an NDA prior to our first call.
