Overview
We are looking for an experienced React Native developer to investigate and fix a device-specific Android UI issue affecting button labels in our app.
On some real Android devices, including a Redmi phone running HyperOS, the text on the main action buttons in our confirmation sheets is cut off. Examples include “Yes, log out” and “Yes, exit”.
The buttons display correctly on iPhones and our Android emulator, but the issue persists on the affected physical Android device.
### Problem Details
The issue appears to be related to how button text is measured, laid out, or rendered on certain Android devices.
We have already tried the following:
1. Disabled the influence of the system font-size setting on the app's text sizing.
2. Changed the loading-state implementation so button labels are hidden differently, while keeping the button dimensions stable.
3. Tested an emulator configured to match the affected device's narrower screen and 130% text scaling. The original clipping was reproduced before our changes but no longer occurs afterward. However, the issue still happens on the actual Redmi device.
We need someone who can investigate the underlying cause rather than simply apply another workaround that only works in the emulator.
Scope of Work
- Review the relevant React Native button and confirmation-sheet components.
- Investigate Android-specific text measurement, font padding, line height, flex layout, width constraints, and text rendering behaviour.
- Identify why the issue occurs on certain physical Android devices, particularly Redmi/HyperOS.
- Reproduce the issue on a real device where possible, or work with us to obtain the necessary device details and test steps.
- Implement a reliable fix without breaking the existing button design, loading states, or interactions.
- Verify that button labels display fully across different screen sizes and Android configurations.
- Check that the fix does not introduce regressions on iOS or other Android devices.
Requirements
- Strong experience with React Native and Android-specific UI debugging.
- Experience diagnosing text clipping, truncation, and layout issues on physical Android devices.
- Familiarity with Android font padding, line height, font scaling, and React Native Text and View layout behaviour.
- Ability to distinguish between a layout issue and a native Android rendering issue.
- Experience testing on different Android manufacturers or OS versions is highly desirable.
- Clear communication and the ability to explain the root cause of a bug.
Deliverables
1. A clear explanation of the root cause.
2. A code-level fix with minimal, justified changes.
3. Testing evidence showing that the affected button labels are no longer clipped.
4. Confirmation that loading states and button interactions still work correctly.
5. A summary of devices and configurations tested, along with any remaining limitations.
To Apply
Please include the following in your proposal:
1. Describe a React Native bug you have fixed that behaved differently on real Android devices compared with an emulator.
2. Have you worked with Android font scaling, text clipping, or Redmi/Xiaomi/HyperOS devices?
3. How would you investigate a button label that is clipped on a physical device but displays correctly in an emulator?
4. Are you able to test on a physical Android device, or can you help us establish a reliable reproduction?
5. What is your estimated turnaround time?
We can provide the relevant code, screenshots or a short video of the issue, and additional device details to the selected developer.
We are looking for a practical, targeted fix, not a complete UI rewrite.
