The role focuses on coordinating multiple supplier bookings within a single travel package, handling payment transactions, managing booking failures, and maintaining consistent booking and payment statuses. Experience with Amadeus Flight and Hotel APIs and complex travel package booking workflows is highly desirable. Key Responsibilities: -------------------------------------- A. Backend/Frontend Development -Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Node.js, NestJS, and TypeScript. -Build secure, well-structured REST APIs for travel packages, flight and hotel bookings, payments, and customer customization. -Implement modular architecture, request validation, exception handling, logging, and API security. -Optimize application performance, database queries, and third-party API communication. B. Travel Portal and Package Management -Develop backend functionality for admin-created travel packages containing multiple flights, hotel rooms, and additional services such as car rentals. -Support domestic and international flights, multi-city itineraries, multiple flight segments, and separate flight bookings. -Enable customers to customize travel dates, destinations, flight preferences, hotel options, room configurations, and occupancy according to package rules. -Manage package pricing, availability, supplier offers, booking statuses, and itinerary details. -Coordinate multiple supplier bookings to achieve successful end-to-end package confirmation. C. Amadeus API Integration -Integrate and maintain Amadeus Flight and Hotel APIs. -Implement flight and hotel search, offer retrieval, pricing validation, availability checks, booking creation, and cancellation workflows. -Handle expired offers, unavailable rooms, flight availability changes, supplier errors, API timeouts, and inconsistent responses. -Manage multi-city itineraries, multiple flight bookings, and multi-room hotel booking scenarios. -Implement appropriate offer revalidation and refreshed-offer workflows to reduce booking failures. -Maintain supplier booking references, PNR details, hotel confirmation details, and booking lifecycle statuses. D. Booking Orchestration and Transaction Reliability -Design robust booking orchestration workflows for packages containing multiple dependent bookings. -Handle partial booking failures when some flights or hotel rooms are confirmed while other components fail. -Implement controlled retries, idempotency, duplicate-booking prevention, and duplicate-payment protection. -Develop compensation and recovery workflows, including cancellation of successfully created bookings where appropriate. -Ensure booking operations are traceable, recoverable, and consistent across the application. -Optimize booking execution time to reduce the risk of offers expiring during checkout. E. Payment Gateway Integration -Integrate payment gateways such as PayGate or equivalent payment providers. -Implement payment authorization, capture, void, refund, callback, and webhook handling, subject to provider capabilities. -Coordinate payment completion with supplier booking outcomes and agreed business rules. -Prevent duplicate captures and handle payment timeouts, failed transactions, and reconciliation scenarios. -Maintain accurate payment and booking transaction records. -Understand the distinction between payment authorization, capture, void, and refund. F. Database, Caching, and Reliability -Use MongoDB to manage packages, itineraries, customer details, supplier responses, bookings, and payment transactions. -Design suitable schemas, indexes, and query patterns for complex booking workflows. -Use Redis for caching, temporary booking data, session management, queues, or distributed coordination where appropriate. -Maintain audit trails for supplier requests and responses, retries, cancellations, refunds, and booking status changes. -Implement structured logging, monitoring, and error reporting to support production troubleshooting. G. Code Quality and Collaboration -Write clean, maintainable, testable, and secure code. -Develop unit and integration tests for critical booking and payment workflows. -Collaborate with frontend developers, QA engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders. -Troubleshoot production issues and implement durable fixes. -Document API contracts, integration workflows, and recovery procedures. Required Skills: Strong experience with Node.js, NestJS, TypeScript, and REST APIs. Hands-on experience building travel portals or booking platforms. Experience with Amadeus or equivalent GDS/travel supplier APIs. Solid knowledge of MongoDB, payment integrations, asynchronous processing, and third-party API error handling. Familiarity with Redis, Git, testing, and production debugging. Preferred: Experience with PayGate South Africa, multi-component booking workflows, idempotency, retries, and transaction recovery.
