Senior Health-Tech Full-Stack Engineer – Eye Care App V2 + EHR API Integration

Job description: PocketEye is a UK health-tech platform connecting community optometrists with consultant ophthalmologists for rapid clinical advice, image/OCT review and referral decision support. We already have a live V1 platform serving independent optometry practices. I am now looking for a senior full-stack engineer to help design and build PocketEye V2 under company-controlled infrastructure. The new platform needs to support two routes: 1. PocketEye Direct Independent optometry practices log into PocketEye directly, create cases, upload clinical information/images and receive consultant ophthalmology advice. 2. PocketEye × EHR integration We are progressing a commercial integration with a major optical electronic healthcare record / practice-management platform. Their users should eventually be able to send relevant patient data and images into PocketEye through an API integration and receive the consultant response back into their system. Both routes should feed into one shared PocketEye clinical workflow and backend, rather than becoming separate products. Initial scope: I need someone capable of helping with: Technical architecture for PocketEye V2 Secure multi-tenant SaaS infrastructure Practice and clinician user accounts Patient/case creation Secure clinical-history capture OCT / retinal / anterior-segment image and file upload Consultant ophthalmologist dashboard Case allocation and status workflow Structured clinical responses/reports Notifications Audit logs Role-based permissions API layer for third-party integrations Integration with an external EHR/practice-management API Authentication/API security Database design Deployment, monitoring and backups Technical documentation Stripe/subscription integration where required Important: This platform handles healthcare information, so security, access control, auditability and data protection are extremely important. GDPR needs to be respected too. Experience building products in healthcare, fintech or another regulated-data environment would be highly desirable. I am not looking for a junior developer or a developer who only builds front-end websites. I need someone who can think architecturally, explain technical decisions clearly and take ownership of delivering a robust SaaS product. Ideal technical experience: Strong experience with most of the following: React / Next.js or equivalent modern frontend framework Node.js, Python, .NET or similar backend technology PostgreSQL or equivalent relational database REST APIs OAuth / secure API authentication AWS, Azure or equivalent cloud infrastructure Secure file/image storage CI/CD Git/GitHub Stripe Logging and monitoring Role-based access control API integrations with external SaaS/EHR systems Security best practices for sensitive data Healthcare API / EHR / EMR integration experience would be a major advantage. Ownership of code and infrastructure: This is extremely important. All work must be created inside PocketEye-controlled company accounts. That means: PocketEye owns the GitHub organisation/repositories PocketEye owns the cloud account PocketEye owns hosting and databases PocketEye owns deployment accounts PocketEye owns API/integration accounts PocketEye owns all source code and technical documentation You will be granted the access required to work within those environments. All source code, documentation, schemas, configurations and other deliverables created during the engagement must be assigned to PocketEye Limited. First milestone: I do not want to commit immediately to a huge rebuild. The first paid milestone will be a technical discovery and architecture phase. I will provide: Existing PocketEye workflow/screenshots Product requirements Current user journey Third-party API documentation Commercial integration requirements I would expect you to produce: Recommended V2 architecture Recommended technology stack Database/data model Direct-practice user architecture Third-party API integration architecture Security/infrastructure approach Development phases Estimated hours/cost Risks or unknowns Recommended MVP scope If this goes well, I would like the same engineer to continue building and potentially become PocketEye's ongoing technical lead/fractional engineering resource. I am initially looking for a senior individual engineer rather than a large agency. Preference for someone who: -communicates extremely well in English -can overlap with UK working hours for meetings when required can start quickly -is comfortable working directly with a non-technical founder -is pragmatic about building an MVP rather than over-engineering -is interested in a longer-term relationship if the initial project goes well Initial engagement: small paid architecture/discovery milestone, followed by phased development for the right person.
