I have a working Python scraper that pulls picks from a published Google Sheet into an Excel file. It runs on my local computer. It works, but it is not extracting all the data and I need it fixed.
The problem: the sheet has 9 categories laid out in blocks across and down the page. The scraper only picks up the first two categories. Everything further right is skipped entirely — roughly a third of the picks never make it into the Excel file.
What needs to happen:
All 9 categories extracted, every time
Each pick written into Excel under the correct category
The category blocks move position from day to day, and the same column can hold a different category further down the sheet. The parser must identify each category by its name, not by its row or column position, and still map everything correctly when a block moves
Blank spacer columns and extra columns inside a block must not stop the parse
Sport captured correctly for every pick, including picks that sit under no sport header
If a category is genuinely empty, that must be distinguishable from a category that failed to parse — the script should log it, not fail silently
I have the existing code and can show you the live source and the current output.
