Senior Backend Engineer (Python / FastAPI)

We're hiring a second backend engineer at Banrox. Location: Remote. We hire across the US, EU, and Latin America for this seat and rate by region (see below). Banrox is an early-stage fintech building consumer credit and lending tools: identity verification, credit report access, bank account linking, and a marketplace that connects verified applicants to lenders. We're a small team, we ship often, and the product is already live. What you'd own: The data persistence layer for bank connection data and transaction history, so the product reads from our own database instead of re-pulling from vendors on every page load A partner-facing panel where lending partners review applications, request documents, and respond with offers Notification and alerting infrastructure across the dashboard, so users get real signal (a new hard inquiry, a subscription price increase, a document request) instead of a blank screen What we're looking for: Strong Python, ideally with FastAPI or a comparable async framework Comfortable with Postgres, Redis, and background job processing (we use Celery) Experience in a regulated or high-trust domain (fintech, healthtech, identity, insurance) is a real plus, not a checkbox. You should understand why data hygiene and auditability matter, not just performance Someone who can work from a defined milestone and a fixed scope, and flag risk early rather than going quiet until the deadline How this works: This is contract work, not a full-time role right now. We pay per milestone with a defined scope and a cap, or an hourly rate with a monthly ceiling for open-ended work. US-based contractor rate range is $57 to $74 per hour, EU $25 to $60 per hour, Latin America $35 to $45 per hour, typically structured as milestone blocks of $400 to $2,000 rather than open-ended hours. Before any repository or data access, we require a signed NDA and IP assignment. This is not negotiable and applies from day one, including trial work.
