Seeking a specialist to support clinical terminology and laboratory integration work, including mapping LOINC codes to industry-standard test results. This role will help ensure accurate terminology alignment, support data integration efforts, and contribute to improving the consistency and quality of lab-related information. Ideal candidates should be comfortable working with clinical data standards and collaborating on integration projects.
Position summary
Kurik is seeking a Clinical Terminology and Laboratory Integration Specialist to normalize laboratory results received from Quest Diagnostics, Labcorp, TriCore Reference Laboratories, hospitals, and other diagnostic vendors.
The specialist will map vendor-specific test identifiers and descriptions to standardized LOINC codes and ensure that incoming results are represented consistently within the Kurik clinical platform. The role will work closely with physicians, software developers, interface engineers, and laboratory partners.
Primary responsibilities
Review incoming HL7, FHIR, API, CSV, and proprietary laboratory result feeds.
Map laboratory-specific test codes to appropriate LOINC observation codes.
Maintain a version-controlled crosswalk for each laboratory and interface.
Validate mappings using:
analyte or component
specimen type
measurement property
timing
result scale
analytical method
units of measure
Normalize units using UCUM where appropriate.
Distinguish test orders, panels, components, calculated values, comments, and final results.
Map laboratory panels without incorrectly assigning a panel LOINC code to individual component results.
Identify ambiguous, incomplete, or unsafe mappings and route them for clinical review.
Build automated quality-control rules to detect:
unknown vendor codes
unit mismatches
specimen mismatches
incompatible result types
retired or deprecated LOINC codes
unexpected reference ranges
Maintain provenance so every normalized result retains:
original laboratory name
original test code
original test description
original units
mapped LOINC code
mapping version
mapping confidence
reviewer and approval date
Test interfaces using real and synthetic laboratory messages.
Document mapping decisions and governance procedures.
Monitor LOINC releases and update mappings when codes are deprecated or replaced.
LOINC specifically provides mapping guidance and tools for associating local laboratory terms with standardized LOINC concepts; maintaining a local-to-LOINC mapping table is a core part of the intended implementation workflow.
